1) Message boards : Questions and problems : Control the tasks you have (Message 91940)

Ive had BOINC running in the background for along time. Ive upgraded to the new version tonight & its running :) 7.14.2 (x64)

Ive looked through the manager screen but can not find any option/settings for these. I have several queries.

I am currently running only SETI@home tasks

1) How do i control how many tasks I have ? Ive currently got 6 tasks on hand & are processing.

How do i set it to a lower / higher amount ? EG if i only want 4 tasks at any time.. or 8, 10 etc ?

2) Is there a way to hold off uploading/downloading - & do this manually?

Possibly have the BOINC manager "blink" in the task bar - to say there are completed tasks to upload.

3) if i leave the upload/download as automatic. Is there a way to view the logs and show ONLY the upload/download logs - without all the other stuff in the logs.

EG - so i can see that i'm uploading/downloading 1 task a day, 5 tasks, or 20 tasks etc a day

Hello.

ive found the "your computer" area & can see all my tasks - current / completed.

Query 1) do my completed tasks get removed from the list - ie after 2 weeks or so (so the stats list dont get too full).

Query 2) Is there a screen to give us a summary of our latest (xx) updates ?

EG

MON: - 2 tasks "uploaded / finished", 1 task downloaded. 1 task credited
WED: - 3 tasks "uploaded / finished", 4 task downloaded. 2 task credited

the last 5, 10 (more) connections to BOINC / SETI ?

i'm running BOINC on Ubuntu/Linux. I can see my last connection, and current tasks - but dont know the exact up/download / credits etc per day

EDIT: Spalling arrars

Hello.

I've got the same issue.

installed BOINC a few days ago. SETI is the only project i'm running on my phone & it seems to be going. I leave it "crunching" overnight - or all day (while i'm at work).

I rarely "use" my phone during the day - ony a few texts etc..

but the percentage looks as if its crunching, but the next time i look, it resets to 0% - with no uploads / finished tasks in my stats.

ARM
ARMv7 Processor rev 4 (v7l)
(2 processors)

ALSO, i have 2 processors. but only 2 tasks. shouldn't it download 3 tasks (1 spare, so when one runs out, it can start processing the next task.
or even have 4 tasks on my phone - 1 spare for each of my processors)

Hello. Is there a special / specific email to send suggestions for the main BOINC website ?

can a new link be added to this site :-

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/links.php

and call it "My personal stats". or something - going to http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/hosts_user.php

Unless I bookmark it (I'm not sure how i found it in the first place), i can never seem to find it (in google).

100% seems to be going.

I'm off to bed, will recheck in morning.

though, the wording of the settings is wrong - it says percentage of CPU not TIME.

My thinking, is if I have 60% on BOINC, I've got 40% of CPU reserved for other things (texts / phone calls / internet etc..). it should run 100% of the time - but not using maximum processing strength / speed... (or reduce computations if other things need to be processed)

I'll check in the morning. thanks.

FURTHER:

I'm now looking at BOINC on my phone & its doing this every second :-

processing
suspended
processing
suspended
processing
suspended
processing
suspended
processing
suspended
processing
suspended
processing
suspended

is there a log type screen to tell me WHY it is suspending ? (ie CPU percentage ?)

I've not seen this before now...

Hello.

I've got a Samsung Galaxy Ace phone, ANDROID - & recently (last few days) added BOINC to it, & the SETI project.

Problem: it appears that it is ONLY processing when I am actively using the phone - not when its not used.

IE - when my screensaver goes dark - & nothing showing on the screen, but my phone is still turned ON.

The options i have are :-

- AUTOSTART - TICKED

- Pause computation when screen off - NOT ticked.

- Transfer tasks using wifi - TICKED

- power source for computation - battery - ticked. (so it computes when not charging)

- min battery level - 0% (I'll change this when i can get it processing 100% )

- Max battery power - 40c (i've changed it now to 60c )

- CPU used for BOINC - 60%

- Pause on CPU usage over 90% (if I'm not doing anything - CPU shouldn't be used right ? & would be HIGHER if I'm using it ? - BOINC runs when i;'m using it)

(i don't think the other settings matter)..

Query: How do I get BOINC to process 100% of the time when i'm not using the phone ?

I've had BOINC loaded on the phone for a few days, & I'm only 2% of the 1st "package" (or whatever its called)

EDIT: i've basically checked it, & when i am using the phone (the display is not dark), the processing percentage slowly increases.

If i don't touch my phone & screen goes dark, a few hours later I check my phone & the percentage processed has not changed.
9) Message boards : Web interfaces : 'simple' BOINC stats (SETI) (Message 28309)

Hi,

I have logged on, & see the stats for my computers.

I've recently (yesterday) added my 2nd computer to BOINC - VERY fast...

anyway, it seems to complete 3 BOINC-SETI files every 2 hours..

I've been online & see the stats PER woirk unit & my total credits.

However, I'm wondering - Is / are there any "simple" stats, EG :- you have done XX number of units today, XX number yesterday, XX number in last 7 days, month etc...

An easy reference so I can compare from 1 computer to the other,,

10) Message boards : Questions and problems : Win XP and Linux (Message 25027)

Hi,

I am currently running BOINC on my Win XP PC.

I've just obtained an older PC - which has Linux on it.

after I connect the 2 PC's up in network, I'll see what version of Linux, or format it & re-start with an upgraded version..

(I need Linux for a project i'm doing)...

WHAT I INTEND :-

I'm going to network the two PC's, & have Googled & found that there are Linux versions of BOINC...

Once installed & up & running, Is there a way that my Win XP can connect to the net, & download enough units (SETI) for *BOTH* PC's, and then distribute some to my Linux PC for processing, & some kept on the WIN XP PC

I guess there are / is a process for this, but

Q1 :- I do not know the programme / process used to distribute work units between PC's and 1 PC connects to the net.

- How ?

and

Q2 :- I gather it is possible for several Windows PC's to be networked this way, - But is it OK / Similar process for WIN & Linux ?

Also - How ? :)

Thank you.

Ps - Dummies Guide please :) I know NOTHING about Linux as yet, I'm going to crash-course myself into learning things as I go....
