That looks like what I want!!! What's the best way to install the .deb packages? I only really want boinc-client and boinc-manager.

Hi,

You've probably heard this before, but are updated versions coming for BOINC for Linux on the Download page?

I've installed BOINC on my PC (running Linux Mint 19.2) from the Software Manager and even that is version 7.9.3. I removed BOINC Manager and am using boinctui as I found the GUI manager to be buggy, as in not always connecting on bootup.

Thanks!

Hi,

I have Boinc Manager 7.0.28 x64 running fine with Windows 8 Pro x64. Currently crunching WCG work units (CPU and GPU). Maybe some Windows updates have helped???

Tried to update to new version, and it doesn't give error, but then doesn't work.
Linux x86_64 system. ldd shows messages on libssl and libcrypto. Fedora 14 has openssl. Also, running the manager gave message about libuw_gtk2 something.

Just redownloaded 10.58 and reinstalled it.

Install script should check for theses things, before overwritting old version.

I ran into essentially the same problem on Ubuntu 10.10 and Fedora 14. We're talking about the .sh installer downloadable from the BOINC home page, not installation from a package manager.

The client and manager in Berkeley's .sh installer are supposed to be statically compiled so that all shared libraries (.dll's in Windows speak) are included in the binaries. That's so the manager and client will work out of the box on most Linux distros. It appears some libraries were neglected in this release.

Maybe Rom could be informed and perhaps he will fix the problem.

I have the same issue with Ubuntu 11.04. Downloaded and installed the .sh file, then ran run_manager. And... nothing happened! Went back to 6.10.58.

Hi,

I'm running Boinc Mananger on two PCs - one with Windows 7 and the other with Red Hat 5. I've just noticed a small difference in behaviour between the two managers - nothing major, just a little bit different.

Firstly, I am running only 1 project on each machine. Now, on the Messages tab, when I hightlight a line in the project messages and then click on "Show only this project" on the Linux PC, the button greys out and shows only messages for the project running and the button then stays greyed out. If I repeat this same procedure on the Windows PC, the "Show only this project" button actually changes its text to "Show all messages" and is enabled. So if I had more than 1 project running I could still click on this and show all the messages. Not sure if the Linux version would let me do this (as I only have 1 project going atm).

I'm running Boinc version 6.10.56 on my Linux PC and 6.10.58 on my Windows PC.

Jave.

Actually, I'm a fool. The button works as it should. I just didn't select a line or two from the project messages first. :-O

27) Message boards : Questions and problems : BOINC 6.10.43/44 withdrawn
Message 32494

6.10.43/44 have apparently been withdrawn due to a problem with GPU process.

The withdrawal was posted in BOINC News, but not here.

Since the release of 6.10.43/44 was also announced here, its withdrawal needs also to be posted here.

So is it fair to say that v6.10.43 is still safe to run with no GPU processing enabled? The project I'm running (WCG) uses no GPU processing anyway, so I don't think going back to v.6.10.18 would be of any real use/benefit/advantage to me.

Just installed on Vista Ultimate x64 with no problems. One thing I did notice was that the CPU benchmarking gave higher results that previous Boinc versions? No big deal, just an observation.

Also installed 6.10.147 on a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10. It works, but only after I installed 6.4.5 from the Ubuntu Software Manager, then uninstalled 6.4.5, and then installed 6.10.17. Strange. It still isn't quite right though. The "Tasks" tab only seems to update times and percentages when you move the mouse? And Boinc Manager doesn't stop all the tasks when I exit, and it still won't stop all the tasks even after I've selected to "Enable Manager exit dialog?" from the "Options" page.

Does the small contribution to science outweigh the small usage of energy that my PC uses to continue running when I would normally turn it off?

I think it's worth it. I mean with projects such as World Community Grid and Rosetta there could be multiple benefits to a countless number of people. Which is why I choose to run projects like these. Projects like SETI on the other hand are interesting, but in my opinion they serve no real purpose to mankind. What do we expect aliens to do if we find them? Fix up our planet? "Hey, we really screwed up - can you help us?"

The message basically say, yes I got your info last time you connected, you can now do the necessary clean up.

Ok, thanks for the info!

This happens a lot on climateprediction, and doesn't matter there.

Ok. I'm currently running World Community Grid as my one and only project. I don't get the message often - I was just curious as to why it occurred.

Just a question about the message in the title of this thread. What exactly is happening with the result of task xxx? Has BOINC Manager already sent the result previously, then tried again when I've manually updated the project? Or has the task been completed by someone else before me? (I know that two users working on the same task shouldn't happen but I've put in the possibilty just in case.)

The dev are not keen on adding extraneous complications to the manager.

Ok, no probs. It was simply a suggestion.

Just one more question. Would it possible have another column in the "Tasks" tab showing the FIFO priority of a task? At least that way a person can see why a task that has a tighter deadline is being left alone and another task has been chosen to run. Just a thought. Or even a column to show the date/time when the task was originally downloaded and added to the queue.

Just remember that BOINC is 70+ projects, not just one.

Ok, multiple projects point taken. I'll leave BOINC Manager be. :-)

I've asked this question before, and I'm going to ask it again, as the current logic used by BOINC Manager just doesn't make sense.

I have 2 days cache of WUs for the World Community Grid. Today's date is 10 Sept 09. I have 6 tasks waiting to be completed with a deadline of 14 Sept 09, yet BOINC Manager keeps starting other tasks with a deadline of 19 Sept 09. When the date gets closer to the 14th, no doubt BOINC Manager will panic and run the tasks with a deadline of the 14th in "high-priority" mode. This just does not make sense. WHY DOES BOINC MANAGER DO THIS??? It should run the tasks with the closest deadline first. I just don't understand the logic behind the way that BOINC Manager currently prioritizes its jobs!!!

New version of BOINC 6.6.36 seems to fix this issue. I can now kill all WUs when I exit the BOINC Manager.

A quick question about the prioritisation of tasks within BOINC Manager 6.6.28. I'm currently doing work for the World Community Grid. Today's date is 24 May 2009. The next tasks on my list has a deadline of 7 June 2009, but at the bottom of the list there are two tasks which have a deadline of 25 May 2009. Now you'd think it would smart to do the tasks with the earlier deadline of 25 May before any of the others, but BOINC Manager doesn't think this way, and it simply starts the next task with the deadline of 7 June, ie tasks are done on a FIFO basis. Why?

Wow... I'm impressed. Currently running 1.57 on a Dual AMD Opteron 275 system (ie four cores in total) with Vista 32 as the OS and all seems well. This will definitely come in handy during summer here in Australia. :) (It's currently late autumn now.)
