I've thought about getting a RISC server now and was wondering if BOINC or SETI even supports the SPARC processors as I know they're pretty uncommon for volunteer computing.

In any case, then make sure you downloaded the drivers from https://support.amd.com/en-us/download (or https://support.amd.com/fr-fr for French) Yeah, As a gamer I keep them very up to date, Intel don't update their drivers much so that isn't an issue and I used to also have a GTX 680 in the machine (along side the R9 380X, because dat GPU compute)

Stop client and start again does remedy the issue, at least on Linux. The client is completely locked on booting, constantly using about 30% CPU according task manage. Force closing and restarting it does nothing.

5) Message boards : Questions and problems : Another windows 10 creators update problem (Message 77644) Posted 27 Apr 2017 by Joshua Nicoll Post: MS frequently drop the parts of the driver needed for computing, while leaving the bits needed to do the graphics stuff untouched -and don't bother changing the version number or id to indicate that the driver has been neutered for computation. As has been said many, many times -do not allow MS to update your video driver, only rely on drivers from (chipset) manufacturer. The drivers are manually installed and uninstalled when updates, windows has no control of that. The drivers work fine, boinc just still not work unless uninstalled and installed again. On next boot it's broken again. This is not a computation driver issue, but perhaps windows has changed it handles said drivers and boinc gets confused. The GPUs are an R9 380X overclocked balls to the wall 1220MHz core 1750MHz memory and an Intel HD530 iGPU with a system wide 2.5% overclock, I tried stock and it still didn't make any difference.

When I tried the uninstall and reinstall trick the first time the GPU's weren't detected correctly but the 2nd and 3rd times they where. The error logs are hung up on the GPU drivers, but this problem prevents BOINC from even initialising, it gets stuck on the communicating with local host issue. The SETI@home project can't even load, and the software is VERY buggy while in this state.

8) Message boards : Questions and problems : Another windows 10 creators update problem (Message 77601) Posted 25 Apr 2017 by Joshua Nicoll Post: I have the screen saver disabled (that that this stupid update didn't reset all my settings and drive me a little bit back towards Linux honestly) but it did break BOINC massively. The client is stuck at the connecting to local host part, it will not start up at all. I have to uninstall the client and reinstall, where it works until I reboot or shut it off and turn it on, in which it become broken again. The client is running in task manager gobbling up 30% of CPU utilisation and not doing anything. I would love to give you the event log but it's empty and nothing works on the client anymore. I don't think this can be fixed by suggestions so consider this more of a bug report than a request for help persay, unless someone knows what is exactly causing this in which case I'll be your best friend for all eternity.

I completely removed boinc and it worked but after a afterstarting the machine it broke again, which means you might be right there. It works fine with my other machine though, but that has a nvidia GPU. The two OS's are both the same and configured the same. I'll try restarting service then.

I did reset the bios during the reinstall, but I doubt that would have changed anything. It was working on SETI@home. I double checked it was using the right drivers and it is. The OS is Linux.
