What is the latest version of BOINC available for CPU crunchers only. I neither have GPU capability, nor do I expect to in the near future. If possible, I would prefer an older version that displays CPU time rather than elapsed in the manager.

Wish I had your skills and/or confidence! I am incredibly leery of messing with the data directory. It seems every time I attempt what I consider to be advanced tasks such as that, one false keystroke or some other simple error causes catastrophic damage that I find difficult if not impossible to repair. Perhaps it's time to screw up my courage and give it a go. When you refer to performing an initial backup, do you mean a windows system restore checkpoint or another method? Thanks for your help. I am a literal computer novice. 95% of what limited skills I do possess have come from running BOINC.

Can anyone tell me what the effects of memory cleaner/booster programs are on BOINC applications? I leave my projects suspened in memory while not in use. These cleaners are supposed to free up RAM, but I am not sure if I will lose the crunching of apps. currently suspened. Is this something that needs to be investigated on a project by project basis? Or even a product by product basis? Also, I have heard debate on whether it is even wise to use these as things are left in RAM fir a reason and cleaning/removing said "things" can actually be harmful or counterproductive. Any thoughs or recommendations? Seems to cause FreeHal work units to fail for one, so I have stopped running cleaners. Due, however to the miniscule RAM on my boxes, I need all the free RAM I can get. (768mb)

Ageless, your skills amaze me! I have downloaded the exe. file but am afraid to "tamper" with the BOINC directory in any way. You mention to just "drop" it in. How does one do this, and is it really so easy?

Is there any way for the manager to show CPU time instead of elapsed time in the tasks column?

Thanks, guys. Had to go to work, hence the long lag time here. Without taking the time to check a specific project, I have noticed in the past what I consider to be a strangely low value for the indicator you mentioned considering I run BOINC ( and my computers for that matter ) at 100% CPU 24/7. Does BOINC consider my computer not to be running when I'm doing other tasks such as reading e-mail, etc.? This could very well be part if not all of my issue.

I guss upon further reflection, report deadlines are probably the proximate cause. What cofuses me, however, is that there seem to be no instances where any report deadline is even close to being in jeapordy. ( by my admittedly rudimentary calculations anyhow ) I was offline for a good six months unfortunately, and therefore had no tasks in any state of progress.

Is it normal for tasks from numerous projects to run at high priority when upgrading to a new BOINC version? I was ofline for a while, and upgraded from 6.4.7 to 6.10.18. Shortly thereafter I then upgraded to 6.10.43. I am not sure if I was using 6.10.18 long enough for it to "stabilize". Is this a simple function of LTD (long term debt) and therefore nothing to be concerned about? I have seen that when some tasks jump to high priority, they suspend other tasks before a checkpoint is reached, and therefore I run the risk of losing work already performed. Note: report deadlines do not seem to be the issue.

Have my preferences set to change between projects every hour. Is this based on elapsed time or CPU time?

You can find CPU time under the properties tab in the left hand column.
