The BOINC platform has been mentioned at howtogeek.com as one of the best ways make use of an idle computer. http://www.howtogeek.com/124938/the-best-ways-to-make-use-of-an-idle-computer/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign+230912 |
2) Message boards : Projects : Resources wasted on Primegrid project?
Message 45471 Posted 28 Aug 2012 by skivelitis |
The beauty of PrimeGrid is the chance to find a prime number that will be forever "yours". It allows one to achieve a small degree of immortality. |

Nice to see you fully back online. However, all credits that were pending at the start of the downtime have been marked as "completed can't validate". |

Any word on what happened to FreeHAL? Short outages not unusual, but this one seems somewhat extended. |
6) Message boards : BOINC Manager : Feature Suggestions
Message 42615 Posted 18 Feb 2012 by skivelitis |
Thanks for the reply and all the great reporting info, Ageless. Allow me to phrase my request another way. Would it be reasonable to change the nomenclature of the "show active tasks" tab to something like "show current tasks" or something similar and include therein tasks that are completed yet not reported? From a project perspective, a task is current until reported. Tasks that have not yet started should be excluded---these could still be seen in the "show all tasks" tab. |

Message 42593 Posted 16 Feb 2012 by skivelitis |
Used ProcessHacker to restart the BOINC manager and the problem is gone for now. It has happened on this host before however. It was not stuck on that tab, simply jumping straight to it. |

BOINC v6.12.34, Windows Vista 32bit. AMD 4450e processor. Have 2 other hosts with same BOINC version and operating system that do not have this problem. |

Message 42587 Posted 16 Feb 2012 by skivelitis |
A small modification I would like to see is in the show active tasks tab. Could this be modified to also show completed but unreported tasks? I love the slimmed down nature of the tab, but oftentimes tasks sit unreported without the somewhat cumbersome switching back and forth to check. |

Message 42586 Posted 16 Feb 2012 by skivelitis |
On one of my hosts, when I right-click on the BOINC Mgr icon, the manager automatically opens to the notices tab. There are no new notices to be seen. I no longer even see the mini-menu with the snooze, etc. options. How can I bypass/disable/reset this? |

Anyone know why QuantumFIRE has been down for so long, and if/when it will be back up? |
12) Message boards : Questions and problems : Changing ISP's creates headache of CPID confusion???
Message 35369 Posted 22 Oct 2010 by skivelitis |
All you need is patience. Having followed this thread in the BOINCstats forum, I believe the problem is the e-mail address changed from "my former ISP provider.com" to "my current ISP provider.com" and all that follows thereby. mitrichr, I believe, would like to know why this form of account ID is the determining factor in CPID and if there is not a better way to identify a user account. |

True, this particular SETI problem is not a load issue -- but assuming they get this particular issue resolved prior to next weeks 3 day shut down, during the interim I expect we WILL see load issues big time. I am sure some of the pirhannas on the SETI forums would take you up on that. I no longer crunch for SETI but get amusement reading those message boards. |
16) Message boards : Questions and problems : Dual core behavior
Message 32669 Posted 7 May 2010 by skivelitis |
Was at v6.10.18, think I'll give v6.10.19 a try. Sounds like this should cure my problem. Thanks for the help, I'll let you know how it goes. |
17) Message boards : Questions and problems : Dual core behavior
Message 32652 Posted 7 May 2010 by skivelitis |
What I'm wondering is why only one core seems to be used before and only before AQUA runs. I understand that AQUA will use both cores while in progress, but how can it (or BOINC) cause one core not to be used? Seems like a waste of a core for that time period. Why does BOINC not simply allow the core to be used and then suspend the task into memory when AQUA begins to run? |
18) Message boards : Questions and problems : Dual core behavior
Message 32641 Posted 6 May 2010 by skivelitis |
Just got my first dual core computer and have noticed some unexpected behavior. Machine is Compaq Presario AMD athlon 4450e 2.3GHz w/ 3MB RAM running Vista Home Premium SP2. I have noticed when AQUA for instance is "on deck" only one core will be utilized by BOINC. Is this a function of BOINC or AQUA? If a BOINC issue, is there anything that can be done, and, if not, will it be addressed in a future release? |

Think I"ll stick with 6.10.43 then since the GPU issues wont affect me. Gonna give your manager a go as well! |

Do any projects you know of require a newer version than 5.10.45 for CPU only crunching? |
