we don't run teams here as it's not a project(it's the system), just the common grounds. And it would be best if you didn't share your account key or any personal id with the rest of the community.

we suggest that you go to rosseta@home's forums for more help with this particular problem.

you can try a project reset to see if that clears the problem.

Hello everyone,

I'm hoping that someone can help me. I just installed a NVinda 9800GT which isn't GPU capable. I don't have GPU selected and I've checked all of my accounts and changed the ones that had GPU options to no. But the BOINC manager keeps requesting GPU work units. Is there some way to get the BOINC manager to stop requesting GPU work units?

Thank you,

Warren

the 9800 GT is cuda capable,...... as long as boinc detects a card, it'll ask for work for gpu from projects.

their is a setting in the cc_config file:

<no_gpus>0</no_gpus> insert into options under the config file of boinc data directory. cc_config is the name of the file.

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Client_configuration

bare in mind: that in the future if you decide to let boinc projects use your gpu, you will have to undo this option in config file.

Hi
I've got a radeon HD4850 so it's not an old graphic card and i'm able to play to recent game in very good quality, i mean max details, like this game : strret fighter 4, according to the result of the benchmark ^^

Specs :
Radeon HD4850
Bus : PCI Express 16x 2.0
RAM : 512 Mo GDDR3
Memory bus : 256 bits
GPU : 635Mhz
RAM : 1986Mhz

Lastest catalyst driver 9.8.

Maybe that : "this then HT- 8 cores divides that to 128 KB per core" is a possible explanation to my problem, because is i use 7 cores, the computer works well.

the memory bus is low for that card imo compared to nvidia cards.

it could be the core thing, did you do a benchmark with boinc off?

what graphics card do you have.
specs please. this maybe more of a hardware issue than a boinc related. Some cards can barely keep up with newer games.

I've only read in passing, don't ask me where as it was quite a while ago, that the i7s don't do the hyperthreading thing well with BOINC. I only seem to recall the advice is to use them with 4 CPUs max, when running BOINC.

reason, the l2 cache is so freaking low, 256 kb per physical core... 1 mb L2 cache would slow me down.... info per newegg:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115202

this then HT- 8 cores divides that to 128 KB per core.

honestly, i'm waiting for their 32 NM hex-core processor next year.

for some yes, like seti, it may be endless!

LHC is going to be a long-term project if i'm not mistaken.

I'm one of those people that doesn't forget anything I've learn, even if i was gone for a long time.

The danger with that - especially with BOINC - is that quite often the things you've learned turn out to have changed while your back was turned, and hence not to be true any more! ;-)

True.

in the computing preferences page of the account page of the project(ugh what a phrase)...

and yes, its find to meddle with it, you need to take into account the fact that your computers accumulate debt to projects and will run a lot often if you keep those projects from running(via the means of no new work). my quad is setup in this fashion with no new work set and i babysit the computer. i love doing it for the quad, not so much for the p4's.

you may also want to uncheck "use gpu while in use" as VLAR wu's kill gpu screen performance.

also hogging, it's most likely that your share resource for seti is set very high compared to other gpu projects.

300 for seti and 100 for gpugrid is like running 30 seti mb wu's to 1 gpugrid wu.

Where is

Data directory: \\Server\Boinc

?

Same machine, a drive across a network? Never seen a path where there is no X:\...\BOINC kind of path.

that's sort of the problem, i have no clue as to where that would be on your system.. it's like if you hit another drive on the network when you hit install...

try uninstalling.

see if you see this pathway in your my computer window.

clean out the system again of the boinc files, heck manually delete the folders after the uninstall program is finished.

then reinstall the program, please be sure that you're not installing as a windows service.

is your firewall blocking boinc? is this a laptop or desktop? this is a weird combo of a machine(no offense).

the manager sometimes can lose contact with the client for various reasons such as heavy use, too many task in the cache.

list the first 50 lines as that site is nothing but trouble for browsers.
