Can't get boinc-client to start computing
(Message 102604)
Posted 16 Jan 2021 by redstamp Post: Sorry to be a noob - and I have searched the internet for 30 mins to try and find more info - also looked in /var/lib/boinc-clinet and /etc/boinc-client but can only find GPU detect logs and not stdoutdae.txt which I understand is the event log file? In fact I searched my entire machine and couldn't find it... must be doing something wrong. How did you install BOINC? Recent repository versions have transferred what used to be stdoutdae.txt into the system journal. Great - thanks - that worked without the boot switch (just whinged about it not being necessary when I tried with). Looked at the event log and there were a few complaints about memory, but the right projects were there. The machine was started at 500MB and 'dynamic' in the Hyper-V guest settings. My Ubuntu guest running Boinc client and GUI manager just grabs what it needs, but maybe Debian with the Boinc client only doesn't have the same capability, so I allocated more and have left it to run. Looks like that's sorted it Thanks all!! |

Posted 13 Jan 2021 by redstamp Post: Installed Boinc on Debian headless v7.14.2 Ran install and changed permissions as per this page (https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Installing_BOINC_on_Debian) Added BAM as acount manager with: boinccmd --join_acct_mgr http://bam.boincstats.com <name> <password> Checked with: boinccmd --acct_mgr info ... and BAM is attached as the account manager. But nothing happens... no tasks pulled down, no CPU usage. I can see the hosts from my BAM account if I login to the BAM website. And I have another WIndows PC with the Boinc client manager and have added BAM to that machine fine. Tried re-boot; tried restart. Worked fine when I attached scienceunited (except I couldn't detach and had to re-install). Odd thing is boinccmd --lookup_acct_mgr polls and returns a blank key, so not sure if that's an issue. All help gratefully received. Jon |
