Something is still wrong with boinc or Mint 21 I can't figure out which. On all my computers that are running Mint 21 and have boinc meta package installed with Software Manager, boinc manager will still not start. With help from other users I have most of them crunching einstein@home data but boinc manager will not start via the gui. Trying to start it via comand line (boincmgr) returns "Illegal instruction) and coredumps. Does anyone have any idea where the problems is, LM 21 or boinc?

I used software manager to uninstall every boinc thing it had installed.. After fighting with this for way to long I then discovered that using the software manager to install the "boinc manager flatpack" gives you a newer version of boinc. I then used project manager to install boinc client and now everything works.

I noticed while troubleshooting boinc running under Linux Mint 21 that the only Mint 21 computers that had no problem with boinc were ones that had HD with older down loads of boinc. All say that they are v7.18.1. The new downloads also say they are boinc v7.18.1 but when trying to start boinc manager I get an error message saying "illegal instruction".

Trying to figure this out I stumbled across:
"There have been reports that some recent Ubuntu repositories have installed a broken version of BOINC in their repositories - it claims to be v7.18.1 but they appear to have packaged Android sources, rather then x64 sources".

Does anyone know anything about this?

I'm becoming convinced that the problem is with Linux Mint 21.

Thank You.
running top now shows boinc is running but boinc manager does not appear to be. I can't get to it so I can tell it to run einstein@home. I have boinc and einstein@home running on other computers and have never had problem.

I uninstalled and then deleted all .BOINC files and directories. Rebooted then reinstalled "Metapackage for boinc client and manager . BOINC manager still won't start from the GUI. However from command line boincmgr produces a new message saying "Invalid client RPC password reinstall" I have done this now with the same results.

I should have said, "BOINC Manager" won't start. Normally and in this case I use Software manager to install the Metapackage for boinc client and manager. After the install I go to Administration then click on BOINC Manager. BOINC Manager starts, I choose a project and I am good to go. In this case when I click on BOINC Manager nothing happens. I watch tail -f /var/log/syslog when I do this and I see no errors.

I run einstein@home under boinc. But i have to get boinc manage up and running first. I only started having odd problems like this one when I installed the latest version of Mint Linux. I usually start boinc manager then choose einstein@home and I am off and running.

I picked up a I7 Intel Dell desktop with 16GB of memory. I installed an SSD and installed Linux mint 21 from a DVD. I told Linux mint to install boinc like I have on other computers and it do so. However telling it to start boinc nothing happens. Trying to start boinc manager from the command line results in a "boinc manager (pre-release) is not able to start a boinc client"

I think I originally asked this in the wrong forum.
I have an i5 Intel iMac and this morning BOINC served me a notice that there was a new version of BOINC available. I downloaded and installed BOINC 7.20.2 I run einstein@home

In addition I have an M1 mac mini. It also runs einstein@home. It currently has BOINC version 7.16.21. I got no notice on the M1 mac mini that a new version of BOINC was available. Clicking on "Check for new BOINC version" the BOINC on the M1 mac mini reports "There is no new version of BOINC Manager available".

What memo did I miss?

Event log. This never stops but only on one computer. MYCROFT iMac I5 running Big Sur 11.3.1 but has been doing this for some time before the 11.3. Is this some problem or have I selected a wrong option someplace?

I finally reset the project and the stuck three were gone and the new ones took off OK. I could not find another way to get the original three to get processed. This has not happened to me before.

Since updating MYCROFT my fairly new iMac Intel I5 to Big Sur 11.3.1 the einstein@home tasks show running but the progress percentage is not changing. It was working under 11.2.*

Also my event log is full of:

Fri May 7 12:08:56 2021 | Einstein@Home | [app_msg_receive] got msg from slot 2: <current_cpu_time>6.384228e+03</current_cpu_time><checkpoint_cpu_time>6.384204e+03</checkpoint_cpu_time>

I'm sot sure if the two are connected.

Oddly the Apple M1 mac mini under 11.3.1 is running fine.
