Boinc Manager is stuck in a scheduler request pending mode.

I doesn't upload completed work nor does it download new work units across 4 different projects.

I running Linux Mint 15 x64 and 7.0.27 no firewall, machines can connect to other network sources.

Any ideas?
2) Message boards : Questions and problems : How to restore to new box? (Message 50081)

Hi all

I had to backup, rebuild and restore a linux box.
I'm having to restore files other that the home folder in a piecemeal fashion.
So far I've restored /var/lib/boinc-client and /etc/boinc-client but the UI hangs (boinc manager) on open. The client is running, but so far the ui can't seem to connect. The machine's name was changed so would that be a cause of failure ? Are there other files I need to restore from backup or config settings to make?

fyi: running linux mint 15 x64 (formerly Mint 13 lst) and Boinc 7.0.27+dfsg-5ubuntu0.12.04.1, installed from synaptic package manager

Well, computers cost money so does the power to run them.
If I can't claim the money donated via equipment and power then I believe it time to finish up the few remaining work units and shut down my "donation"
Previous discussions estmate that their power costs have risen several hundred dollars per year per box. I am currently running 4 boxes so it's a fair chunk of change that I can better use elsewhere.

So people of BOINC, Seti, Rosetta and Einstein it's been fun but too costly for me to continue. If you can't come up with an accounting system that the general people can use to help even out the costs, then too bad for you.

If and when you do, shoot me an email with the details

Does any one have a formula on how one would calculate the power cost per work unit for a given project?

I want to deduct my energy usage that I donate to the various BOINC projects.

So far I have taken measurements on a selected computer. When idle it's 400 watts, when running Boinc projects is 750 watts.

My guess is I need a record of what each machine consumes at idle and when running Boinc and check the online records to determine how many work units were submitted by each machine with in the given tax year. Then some simple math to determine the $ amount of power used.

Any one have a better approach?

Thanks
5) Message boards : Questions and problems : % of completed work doesn't persist after shutdown/reboot (Message 30770)

Post:
So I'm a bit perplexed as to why this occurs on only this machine.
when I shutdown the machine and a series of work units have between 25 and 60 % complete, the next time the machine is booted, the work units restart at 0 % complete.

I've also noticed that when I remote in, using same account the work completed appears to reset.

I am running a HP ml 570 Win server 2008 r2 x64 4 processor.

It checkpoints to disk every 30 seconds.

Boinc version is 6.10.18 for the download site.
The workunits are from Rosetta.

Ideas?

interesting, but I'm not running a firewall.
And even if I were, why does the Linux version I downloaded and installed from the download site work and the yum version does not?

Unless someone has a solution, I'll un-install this turkey.

looks like reboot fixed the dead gui issue but still the initial problem remains.

When I try to connect to localhost, it pauses a minute while stating "connecting to localhost" then finally says disconnected.

I added myself to /usr/sbin/usermod -G boinc -a username
and also set a password in /var/lib/boinc/gui_rpc_auth.cfg

as outlined in the read me but still no work

btw: the yum version of boinc gui is 6.4.7

any ideas?

Well, still doesn't work.

I (un/re) installed a couple of times just to make sure I was doing everything right.

Basically boincmgr hangs at startup, I see the gui but nothing works
menu items tabs etc all frozen.

the boinc demon is running and my login is a member of the boinc group but...

Appl doesn't even close, I have to kill the process manually

What a pain... suggestions?

And why is that?

the computers aren't free and neither is the power to run them.
Isn't this the same as making a cash donation to the project of interest?

I think this topic needs further detailed discussion.

Just wondering if the computer time/power usage I donate to Boinc projects can some how generate a tax deduction?

I have several machines running boinc and when they are idle they still consume electricity which costs me.

I'd like to know if I can deduct the power costs to run the computers?

I recently installed Boinc from fedora yum
And when I try to run, it tries to connect but ends up as disconnected. I also tried to connect manually, using local host and my or rott passwd still can't connect or add any projects.

On a side note: The version I installed via script 6.6.17 runs as expected.

Any ideas on what I need to do to fix ?

thanks

I've aborted tasks that had ~520 hours run time

latest downloaded tasks have run times on the problem machine at 130 hours for rosetta.

run time on a "normal" machine is ~26 hrs.

Any ideas on how to get tasks that have a chance to complete before their expiration date?

currently running 6.4.4

Maybe I should uninstall/reinstall w/ newer version ?

Hello,
Using Einstein and Rosetta for example.

For some reason these projects on one machine are being downloaded that have et run times of several hundred hours. This doesn't happen on a different, equally powered machine.

Is there anyway to reset something some where so the machine will download project files that it can actually process in a usable time frame?
