Dave,

Thanks, I figured it was a Linux thing. On the Windows client, as I remember it, you could right-click on the BOINC icon in the system tray and tell it to snooze for an hour. Was really handy if you wanted to play a game or something and not forget to turn the BOINC processing back on.

While I would LOVE to have that hour-long snooze feature back, I'm not willing to go back to Windows to get it. >8]

I'd second the suggestion to run fewer CPU cores. I'm not real keen on the on/off method as the repeated thermal cycling just doesn't seem like a great idea. Cycling fast enough to lessen the effect would just create more overhead.

One thing I've done with my GPU for projects that use it is to restrict the clock speed so it's not running flat out all the time. For instance, on the RTX 2060 card I have, I limit the max GPU clock to 1200MHz with the following command:
nvidia-smi -lgc 300,1200

This limits the power usage to about 65 watts or so, which is just about perfect IMHO.

For CPU-bound tasks, just run fewer cores.

Hi all,

I'm running 7.16.6 on Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS and there does not appear to be a snooze feature. Simple view, advanced view, right-clicking on the icon in the dock... nothing. A bit of Googling and searching the forums seems to indicate that there should be a snooze feature.

I remember running the Windows client quite some time ago and it had a snooze feature. What am I missing (besides a snooze feature)?

Thanks and best regards,

- Phil
