I tried both settings with Seti@home v7 checked and unchecked. Error message continues to be sent every other time computer contacts SETI servers.

No problem for me, I can live with it. Perhaps message will change when SETI servers are sending out work in a normal manner. At this time no work is being sent out either Astropulse or Multibeam.

If one is set up to only run Astropulse work then the SETI server generates this message nearly every time the machine contacts SETI.

Message from server: Your app_info.xml file doesn't have a usable version of SETI@home v7.

I believe that not having a usable v7 app should NOT generate this error at least not at this frequency. But i'm sure someone will come along and tell me otherwise.

Using Boinc version 6.10.58 and have been trying to get boinc to stop so my grandaughter can play her games without messing with the completion times and DCF for Boinc.

<exclusive_app>Gameprogram.exe</exclusive_app>
<exclusive_gpu_app>Gameprogram.exe</exclusive_gpu_app>

In both cases or even with both in the cc_config file Boinc just keeps on going. Checking program manager confirms that the GameProgram.exe is running.

Is this a known problem with this version of Boinc?

edit Using Winbows 7 (64)

What if the data directory is D:\Boinc

edit..........same thing I suppose. Moving up to Windows 7 from Windows XP is a pain in the axx. Just don't know all this new fangled stuff.

I have boinc manager and boinc.exe allowed through local network on both Windows 7 machines. Don't know what else needs to be done.

Just thought of something else. I do not have an account on the remote computer in my name. During install of Windows 7 on that remote computer I used my wifes name. Do I need to set up an account there with my name?

Would seem I am not in the group or whatever it is.

New install of Windows 7 then installed Boinc 6.12.12. Removed 6.12.12 and installed 6.12.13. Results same since the install.

I give up........................

I installed Windows 7 Home Premium on two of my computers (64 bit) and still have Windows XP on the other two. (I could not resist the package that allows 3 installations for $150.00 USD)

Now I cannot get Boinc Manager or Boinc View to communicate to the other Windows 7 computer. I don't believe it's the firewall as I have disabled the firewall at both computers and still no comms with Boinc Manager or Boinc View. I still have comms with the two Windows XP computers, just not between the two with Windows 7.

In fact Boinc Manager seems to connect to the other Windows 7 computer, no errors are displayed and it says it's connected at the bottom right corner. But there is no data in any tab.

Boinc version 6.12.13 64 bit at this time.

What am I missing here???

Today it's working just fine...........

Perhaps my 60+ year old, pain medicated brain simply didn't do it right yesterday. Or some such thing. I get tired and don't remember things as they occured later in the day.

It's good that Ageless demands absolute proof for problems to be solved.
I'm sorry if I caused undue concern with this section of Boinc operation.

I had made the changes to cc_config only for the GPU to suspend.

Then started working with my video files. Starting and stopping the video editing app that would have suspended the GPU work and restarted it several times during the day. I worked with the video files for most of 4 hours.

Later I checked with Boinc Manager. Found that at one point the Boinc service had restarted because the log showed the startup within the last hour. I did not expect that. Examination of the work units showed cpu time advancing but no progress being made. Checked task manager. It showed the science apps for cpu running but using 0 to 5% on all 4 instances. GPU apps not running or in task manager.

I was going to copy the message page but it was useless as it did not show the gpu work pausing, only the RESTART of the cpu work.

My best guess is that multiple stopping and restarting of the software that is supposed to shut down GPU work only, Boinc gets messed up. And I still believe it was useless to copy what little messaging was in the displayed log.

If it's usefull I guess I could turn on some flags (which ones?) and work with some more video over the holiday weekend. Or perhaps I still have log files on board that would be useful?

Please advise.

Sorry to report some problems.

It appears that the cpu apps stop working in conjunction with the gpu apps. The GPU apps are stopped and completely removed from memory. (not listed in Task Manager) The cpu apps are still listed in task manager but are using 00 cpu cycles. Bringing up Boinc manager shows the gpu tasks are "waiting to run" and the cpu tasks are "running" and accumilating time but progress is not being made on the tasks.

I would not recommend using this option at this time with this version 6.12.8

Working as advertised!!

Nice option to have.

Now I can encode video (which uses the NVIDIA GPU), Boinc suspends the CUDA apps and my DCF does not get messed up when finished with the video. Excellent!

Thanks Ageless,

I also read some of your other posts on this subject. Will try again later and see what happens now that I know what to look for.

When exactly does Boinc check for a running app and then suspend gpu work when using......

<exclusive_gpu_app>important.exe</exclusive_gpu_app>

I attempted to use this option but the gpu's went right along crunching. Messages indicated that Boinc read and understood the option when read as the executable was named and message stated not to use gpu's.

Perhaps this is checked when a wu first starts and not checked again if wu is part way done?

Boinc version 6.12.8 32 bit.

Not interested in work that has been completed and uploaded. Only a total of work that is "on board" the computer.

Your entitled to your own opinion.

How about wu totals for all projects on the lower tool bar?

Are you the final authority on this question??
You make the final decisions about the appearance of Boinc??

If Boinc View could do this years ago I don't see why it should not be done in Boinc.

Just a suggestion............................

In the advanced view................

When displaying the Tasks tab or the Transfers tab, would it be possible to get a total count of the work units in the lower tool bar?

Thanks for the info.

I was taught military time such that 2400 would define the end of the day, not 0000 as that would define the beginning of a new day. My mistake.
