Where is the cc_config.xml file suppose to live?
(Message 113539)
Posted 3 Feb 2024 by Keithsplace Post: YES, the file cc_config file resides in the /var/lib/boinc. Well the copy and paste of cc_config.xml file from another liux machine did not work. Boinc still ran fine but it still didn't follow preferences. Let it run few days and nothing. Then when I went back into to check the file, it said it was corrupt. So I tried the basic cc_config.xml file dropped into /var/lib/boinc This is a minimal configuration file cc_config.xml of the BOINC core client. For a complete list of all available options and logging flags and their meaning see: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/client_configuration --> <cc_config> <log_flags> <task>1</task> <file_xfer>1</file_xfer> <sched_ops>1</sched_ops> </log_flags> </cc_config> This didn't seem to work either. Tried setting prefferences again and it doesn't change the file. It's like manager doesn't know where to look for file or or is not creating or generating the file. This particular PC I ma work on this is a Lenovo laptop, which I know is not going to do GPU tasks. Running Garuda w/Linux 6.7.3-zen1-zen kernel, which is an arch fork from what I gather. Installed with pamac Boinc 7.24.1 (x64) I beleive the download came from chaotic-aur repository I get this behavior on 2 different PC's where preferences don't take or follow. The other is an older Box Running Linux Mint with Linux 6.2.0-39 at the moment. but this box has always had same thing. Kernel and Mint have updated and upgraded through several Mint versions and kernel updates/upgrades. it is running Boinc 7.22.1 (x64) with Intel Xeon and nVidia GT-730 GPU I beleive this one runs in Flatpak On this one all the xml files are in the /var/lib/boinc-clientfolder. I couldn't find any xml files in any of flatpak folders pertaining to Boinc. I'd be willing to try some things if someone has a suggestions. [/code] |

(Message 113474)
Posted 27 Jan 2024 by Keithsplace Post: Thanks, I run several different distro's some preferences work some don't one old one with a very old GPU rarely ever does follow prefs no matter what I do. Most of my Linux mint machines run it fine FFR- Garuda Linux (new for me) the main boinc folder I found in /var/lib/boinc there are other executable files, BOINC is in /home/username, boinc_client, boinccmd, and boincmgr reside in the /user/bin folder, I just droped a cc_config.xml file I coppied from another PC into the /var/lib/boinc. Will test and see if preferences take with that. |

Posted 14 Jan 2024 by Keithsplace Post: Where is the cc_config.xml file suppose to reside? When I edit my computing preferences and click save, it seems to take it but the preferences do not take. Then when I looked at it again it says the the cc_config file was not found. In other words Run Always and run based on preferences don't work. I'm using Garuda Linux 6.6..10-zen-1zen(x86_64) I could make the .xml file but I would need to know the format or template, and where to put it so that manager finds it. The .boinc folder is in my /home folder. Other folder is in /user/bin it has a lot of xml files in it but nothing labled cc_config.xml |

Issues Installing On Garuda Linux
(Message 113358)
Posted 11 Jan 2024 by Keithsplace Post: Attempting to install Boinc on Garuda Linux=which I'am new to. Installed it on many different flavors of Linux Mint and others, and Windows, but first on Garuda Linux, which I believe is Arch based. I found very little help on Garuda site. I never found a repository for boinc. I did however get it to run from terminal. I think my first attempt was from a shell type terminal, as the Manager would start but no client. Secondly I did the following to get it to run, although with some issues, I will list them. I will also list system specs and all other things that I have found that were not what I'm used to seeing. For installation open terminal sudo pacman -Syu boinc In terminal not sudo 1) I typed boinc_clientthen boincmgrthat is boinc_client not the typical boinc-client 2) The manager and client would start looking normal and I could add projects and start. Here are issues I've encountered: 1) In manager in simple view computing preferences only opens blank window. In advanced view I can edit prefs and hit save and seems normal, but they do not take, as setting "stop computing when active" or "Run based on prefs" any other setting takes. The only way to stop is to suspend. I'd be glad to work with someone on this as I must be the first to want to install BOINC on a Garuda Linux system, as I have scoured the search engines Garuda and Boinc for sollutions. Here are system specs: -Computer- Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU 4405U @ 2.10GHz Memory: 7924MB (2485MB used) Machine Type: Notebook Operating System: Garuda Linux User Name: xxx Date/Time: Thu 11 Jan 2024 12:29:10 PM EST -Display- Resolution: 1920x1080 pixels OpenGL Renderer : (Unknown) Session Display Server: The X.Org Foundation 21.1.10 -OS Version- Kernel: Linux 6.6.10-zen1-1-zen (x86_64) Version: #1 ZEN SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Fri, 05 Jan 2024 16:20:18 +0000 C Library: GNU C Library / (GNU libc) 2.38 Distribution: Garuda Linux -Current Session- Computer Name: Lenovo-Flex3 User Name: xxx Language: en_US.UTF-8 (en_US.UTF-8) Home Directory: /home/xxx -Security- Available entropy in /dev/random : 256 bits (medium) ASLR: Fully enabled (mmap base+stack+VDSO base+heap) -Misc- Uptime: 8 hours 48 minutes Load Average: 2.67, 3.85, 3.56 |

Posted 16 Oct 2022 by Keithsplace Post: After reinstalling Boinc after upgrading LM from Linux Mint 20 to 21. Boinc was broke, reinstalled and now Boinc states No Usable GPU found. This particular machine always has an issue with GPU. nVIdia GTS450 Rev. a1. Usually have to resort to legacy drivers for it to work. But usually find a way not yet on this one so far. It's using "nvidia-driver-390" version 390.154 |

Unable to launch BOINC CLIENT/MANAGER since upgrade
(Message 109995)
Posted 5 Oct 2022 by Keithsplace Post: I fixed mine by removing all Boinc from Software Manager and using do all the Mint updates. go back into Software manager and go to bottom of list something like edu.berkely.boinc sort of looked different than all other Boinc apps, I installed it. if you don't see it in Software manager go to package manger and see it is in there. The only thing it is not doing now is running the client with nvidia GPU stuff. In other words it uses CPU only. But it is a much older nVIdia card with an old legacy driver that I always have trouble with Mint, but it is a play/experiment machine. However GPU is not showing up in other machines with newer cards that I also upgraded to Mint 21. It seems in Mint 21 that Boinc runs in sandbox or flatpak not sure,, haven't had the time to investigate any more, to many irons in the fire, but Boinc runs, just not GPU progects. |

boinc won't start running projects unless I un-check suspend
(Message 100629)
Posted 7 Sep 2020 by Keithsplace Post: Normally any of my other machines will start running after no use, as in mouse movement, keyboard or any activity that used more that 25% cpu. Have tried moving the CPU use to 50% but still nothing. I have Conky installed so I can see anything that starts using HD, CPU, ..It's always just a couple percent at idle and never goes above 10% unless I do something on it. Basically same set up as all other machines running Boinc on Linux mint distro's, only this one will not start working on anything project unless I un check "Suspend when computer in use". One other quirk with this one is Boinc is always sending "Message from server: NVIDIA GPU: Upgrade to the latest driver to process tasks using your computer's GPU" The GPU is a nVidia 8400GS rev3, kernal: nvidiafb, nouveau, nvidia with driver 3.3.0 nvidia 340.108 which is the latest I can find anywhere for this older legacy GPU. As far as mouse movements and such, this box is on a KVM switch with those other machines and is sitting there doing nothing, no background tasks, no servers nothing. No other ones do this, they all start a task at the time set after is set to. |

Project requested delay... after update
(Message 98108)
Posted 28 Apr 2020 by Keithsplace Post: Only noticed this on Windows boxes that after the last update, projects don't seem to start. Funny that seems to only be on Windows boxes, I have three Linux boxes with two different distros that don't suffer this. This is by the way after uninstalling, reinstalling, uninstalling running registry cleaner, trim, everything I can think of to get it to work.. No other issues with this particular PC what so ever. Should I trky going back to previous version and see if this corrects it? |

Is there a way in Linux Mint 19.1 to delay boinc start at boot?
(Message 91468)
Posted 13 May 2019 by Keithsplace Post: With no delay it starts automatically at boot. Not giving enough time for graphics drivers to start. it's causing an issue with no GPU unless I restart boinc after boot. Delaying Boinc-Manager does not solve it. At boot Boinc starts projects in the post up. In other words: If I do a sudo /etc/init.d/boinc-client restartafter the box is booted, then the GPU is found and used for projects. But if I just reboot I get the "no usable GPU found." |
