1) Message boards : News : Client version 7.8.2 released
Message 81244 Posted 14 Sep 2017 by James W |
Thanks to Ageless and Richard for the update/"clarification." I think I will hold off on doing this update until I have more info on possible benefits over 7.6.33. Once folks are curious enough to update, we should start getting real world feedback with pros and cons. Thanks again. |

My BOINC Messenger just recently brought up the following new notice:Notice from BOINC Clicking "more" brought me to the same page as Mei mentioned, https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Release_Notes_for_BOINC_7.6. Has the Release Notes page for this latest BOINC version been updated or just not published yet? Seems notice a bit ahead of itself and a bit confusing. I wanted to get some idea of any advantages of this new version versus the one I'm using before downloading and installing. Just an FYI, thanks. |
3) Message boards : Android : No crunching on Tablet with Android V5.0
Message 77630 Posted 26 Apr 2017 by James W |
Tablet: RCA Model #RCT6773W22B Android version 5.0 BOINC Version 7.4.53 Though I have preferences set to run on charger or with USB power connection, and tablet is connected to charger (verified by seeing battery is charging), BOINC continues with message "Connect your device to a charger to continue computing." I've tried couple chargers, and connected via USB to couple computers. However, continue with above message. Also note that when I add "allow use with battery (set to be 90% or greater)" to preferences, I'll then get the message "Computing will resume when battery charge reaches 90% (currently 100%)." Strange! Tablet otherwise works well on all other apps installed. Note that this BOINC version is working well on phones with Android 4.1.1 and 6.01 (though very slow crunching on 4.4.1 phone with 1 processor, as expected). It MAY crunch for a short time (no longer than 2-3 days) and then stop again after I restart BOINC Mgr. or abort a WU. See Event Log and GUI Log samples below. I've tried couple chargers, and connected via USB to couple computers. However, continue with above message. Battery is 95+% or higher during these times. See sample of Event Log below. Note in particular "Suspending computation - GUI not active." This is at the same time get the above message about connecting device to charger. Note that most of time Event log is blank. Also note that when I also set preferences to allow use with battery (set to be 90% or greater), I'll get a message such as "Computing will resume when battery charge reaches 90% (currently 100%)." Strange! Tablet's been working well since my issues in April (see my previous threads from then). I had same issue previously with BOINC 7.4.43. Thank you for any suggestions. 5) Message boards : Android : Available BOINC versions for Android
Message 69764 Posted 27 May 2016 by James W |
I note that the BOINC download page indicates recommended version for Android is 7.4.41 and that 7.4.43 is still in development. It also recommends to download from Google Play. I started with 7.4.41 and upgraded to 7.4.43 when prompted by Google Play. Later on I began having issues with my tablet not recognizing it was on charger. (I started a thread for this previously.) Anyway, I thought it might be good to go back to version 7.4.41. However, only 7.4.43 is currently available on Google Play. Should I download and try to install 7.4.41 from BOINC site, or just leave as is now? Thanks. |

7) Message boards : Android : Android tablet pauses though battery at 100%
Message 69225 Posted 28 Apr 2016 by James W |
BOINC client version 7.4.43 My Android 5 tablet often will show WUs as "ready" and with notice that "Computing will resume when battery charge reaches 90% (currently 100%)." 90% is the level set in preferences. This is while plugged into charger. Sometimes using another app and going back to BOINC will get things going, or eventually BOINC will "decide" to start crunching WUs again. Strange to me that BOINC client doesn't realize that 100% is above 90%! During this "ready" phase, event log also will be blank. I'm using 3 of 4 cores, running 3 WUs (2 SETI@Home and 1 Rosetta). Power set to run on USB, wall socket (charger), and battery. Previously I was only using 2 cores for 2 SETI WUs, with no problem like this. Overworking tablet? Thanks for any ideas. |
8) Message boards : Android : Adding Android 5 tablet to Acct. Manager (BAM)
Message 67068 Posted 22 Jan 2016 by James W |
Thank you so much. I didn't go "deep" enough into Projects screen (i.e. Add Project). Didn't think Acct. Manager would be considered a "project." :-)Tablet's been added to BAM and it automatically readded Seti. Hopefully the BOINC FAQ & Wiki will be updated to address Android app in more detail. |
9) Message boards : Android : Adding Android 5 tablet to Acct. Manager (BAM)
Message 67018 Posted 21 Jan 2016 by James W |
I've been using BAM as my acct. manager for some time to manage my 3 PCs and 1 Smartphone. However, earlier this week I activated BOINC on my Android 5 tablet and began crunching SETI. This has been going well, and stats are showing in BOINCstats and other stat sites. BOINCstats shows I'm using 5 devices (including the new tablet). However, BAM still does not show the new tablet in my acct. My phone has the BOINCstats/BAM link under Projects for synching, etc. However, the tablet only shows the projects themselves in the Projects tab. Therefore, how am I to add the tablet to my BAM acct.? |
