MS Windows 10 and VirtualBox - incompatible?
(Message 104140)
Posted 27 Apr 2021 by 1PE Post: M$ Windoze 10 wants to have me remove VirtualBox before W10 does an update, because VB is "incompatible" with W10. Is anyone else getting this? Can I just ignore W10's bleating? Can I get around the bleating? What do people suggest I do? I like to keep W10 up-to-date. Thanks, Peter |

Ubuntu 20.10 but getting error on BOINC
(Message 101338)
Posted 27 Oct 2020 by 1PE Post: Richard, That makes perfect sense. Let me guess that these can those be piped: > sudo systemctl stop boinc-client | systemctl disable boinc-client > etc > sudo systemctl enable boinc-client | systemctl start boinc-client Well, not so much. :-) I just tried and it's not so good together. So, I'll write out your suggestion into my "day book" for this system, with a big bar along the side and the page dog-eared so I can find it so easily. Thanks, Peter https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canberra Home of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Tridgell who I've met and later interviewed for community radio.... and lurker at http://www.clug.org.au/ |

Ubuntu 20.10 but getting error on BOINC
(Message 101296)
Posted 25 Oct 2020 by 1PE Post: EUREKA! I was forced, for other reasons, to do a full "button" reboot. And.... BOINC IS WORKING! So, if all else fails, use the Index Finger and see what happens. Peter |

Ubuntu update not installing
(Message 66048)
Posted 12 Dec 2015 by 1PE Post: I installed it through the Ubuntu Software Manager. It says it's "boinc-manager 7.2.42+dfsg-1" currently installed. The nagging is this 'new update available' window that keeps appearing with the 2.3MB (total) download I described above -- those are the components in the download. Heavy sigh.... :-) Peter |

Ubuntu update not installing
(Message 66030)
Posted 11 Dec 2015 by 1PE Post: Hi, I have Boinc 7.2.42 running on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS on an old-ish laptop. I am getting nagged to install a specific update, containing: BOINC Manager 1.2MB Central cgroup manager daemon 30kB Core client for the BOINC distributed ... 459kB Libraries of BOINC the client depends on 354kB plus Ubuntu Base XLS stylesheets for the yelp help brow... 226kB I have tried installing several times, and each time been told there are untrusted packages to be installed. Okay.... But then it just keeps coming back; the same update package to install. Is there something I don't understand? Should I blow away my BOINC installation and go with a fresh installation? Thanks, Peter long-term BOINCer |
