Gentlemen? Who let them in? Must have a word with the doorman, only riff raff allowed :-)

Who said you had the right to expel me.
King George V at the Inauguration of the Royal Corps of Signals at Maresfield in 1920 said in his speech we were the Officers and Gentlemen.
It was a mistake on his part, but you try telling the Monarch he was wrong.
:-)

Dare we assume message 83381 marks an elevation in our status? I will think so until informed otherwise. ;-)

@Chris: I am glad to hear you have had a pleasant afternoon, Sir.

What might have been intended is not always a wise assumption* - without clarification. We do at least, now have that, gentlemen. ;-)

Where Mr Sajid Javid may have erred, is in focussing on one area of responsibility only - for the plight in which the UK's younger generation find themselves. Where those contributing to the letter's page could be said to be mistaken, is in thinking they are disagreeing with the Communities Secretary. ;-)

It is my humble view they are not. They have achieved what he did not, however - a firmer foundation on which to point more vehemently at those he named and shamed, in a manner of speaking, and ask how, and which generation, can be held responsible for the very valid points they themselves have noted, and benefitted from. ;-)

But that is merely one view of many. Infinite factors and many fingers in pies affect every generation's legacy to future generations.

Wishing everyone here a happy outrage.

Just don't pay in advance is what I think now...
Absolutely right. I stopped the cheque last night.
The time I, Ffing, devoted to the solution. was time misspent on being wrong. :-)

Coffee pouring puzzle

The game involves a photograph which shows a hand pouring coffee down a series of pipes, which lead into four different cups. Players are asked to guess which of of the four labeled cups would fill first.

since my warning to everyone that the attacks should stop. I suppose all read that warning. But everyone quickly forgot and continued in their downwards spiral.
I can only speak for myself, Jord, but, yes, that is indeed correct.

So I feel that if I set a limit to the numbers we already have, that you may all forget again.
Again... I fear you could be correct.

One thing though, just to hustle things up, I think I may have to go for a magical number of the day that changes per day. So it won't be that any of you with a number out there can just attack to count 4 and sit on it, 'na na'ing' to others. 4 may be the magical number of the day. 2 may be the magical number of the day. A nice random number between 1 and 5.
I will resist the curiosity to discover it then, Sir. ;-)

The past 40 minutes I have been trawling through the top 10 threads, removing all derogatory, veiled, overt, hidden, coded attacks on others.
5 is the magical number of the day.
See 5 in your post removal emails? That means one week vacation.
See 10? Two weeks.
See 15 or more? Four weeks.

Seen any number, but you're still here? Then be warned, it's to stop here. As I have also seen all of you can have perfectly fine discussions without having to flame each other out of the house. All attacks on others stop now. The moderators know your numbers. Are any more attacks seen, we'll just continue counting.
Indeed, as one fortunate to still be here, I will endeavour to forego the pre-school playground and behave with the decorum more appropriate for an adult, Sir.

Thank you for your timely intervention. If I may be permitted a query? Is there a statute of limitations upon the number one has accumulated? ;-) A step back from the noose for good behaviour so to speak? I fully expect that to be on a need to know basis, and will of course, strive not to know. My apologies in the interim.

I agree, it is all in the public domain and it's old news that it started 25 years ago. But of course it was the Independent article that said "The Queen has been forced into paying taxes". The Royal family were willing to volunteer to pay taxes THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO.

I'm pleased that you are happy knocking Britain whilst enjoying the lifestyle that being an official tax haven gives you. I might just pop into The Convent in Main Street, next Spring and have a cup of tea with Lieutenant General Ed Davis. I'm sure he'd be delighted to hear about some of the residents.
I will let him know you are coming, Mr S. :-)))

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/nov/09/uk-will-back-total-ban-on-bee-harming-pesticides-michael-gove-reveals

The UK will back a total ban on insect-harming pesticides in fields across Europe, the environment secretary, Michael Gove, has revealed.

The decision reverses the government’s previous position and is justified by recent new evidence showing neonicotinoids have contaminated the whole landscape and cause damage to colonies of bees. It also follows the revelation that 75% of all flying insects have disappeared in Germany and probably much further afield, a discovery Gove said had shocked him.

Neonicotinoids are the world’s most widely used insecticide but in 2013 the European Union banned their use on flowering crops, although the UK was among the nations opposing the ban. The European Commission now wants a total ban on their use outside of greenhouses, with a vote expected in December, and the UK’s new position makes it very likely to pass.

Royal fortune stays secret: 'The Queen has been forced into paying taxes and the last thing she wants to do is to give the impression to the people that there is a tax regime for her and another one for the ordinary punter' (dated: Friday 12 February 1993)

I've always prided myself on being prepared to stand fup or what I believe in. Also in having no hidden agendas.
Indeed - none. ;-)))))

I expect you knew about their tax and rotten-boroughing though, because both have been covered quite extensively before. Probably not in the Telegraph mind.
Yes I did, and no they haven't!!
As I recall, during those "awkward periods" the Telegraph ran editorials justifying the removal of tax burdens on the wealthy .

Oft times - it is the news an outlet omits that informs one more.

They closed the Orange Free State for a stocktake once. Only stampeding rhinoceroses were allowed past the barriers, and that was only because they brake too late and can't turn corners at speed, so would run straight through and out the other side.
Touché. ;-) Amusing imagery. Thank you. ;-) I am sorry to hear you have reason to seek an answer on the topic you referred to however. I trust all is well?

I saw the resignation, and the statement, slightly differently, and it left me puzzled.

The single incident we know about in Michael Fallon's past is relatively minor on the scale of sleaze, and has been openly 'forgiven and forgotten' by the female journalist concerned. We've all seen ministers clutching at straws and clinging to office after far worse. Also, the statement was very dignified and appropriate - almost old-fashioned.

The whole combination left me feeling that there is more to come. Perhaps?
The grapevine is saying more, Mr Haselgrove, How much is merely the scent of blood is not clear. Either way - he hung himself with the press when he stated: "what might have been acceptable 15, 10 years ago -..." Not pretty.

Oh so we can forget Doris day in Calamity Jane,
Did the tomboy "survive" or conform, Mr S? Sexist, racist escapism may have passed for light entertainment then, and still do now, but that does not make such aspects defensible, Sir.

and Elizabeth Taylor in National Velvet then?
A better example. I will endeavour to keep the explanation simple for you. ;-)The "tomboy" stayed a "tomboy", Sir.

All young girls go through a tomboy stage
No they do not. Neither is tomboy "a stage".

it's all part of growing up. Or it was until the burn your bra brigade banned it :-(
