1) Message boards : Questions and problems : Mac deploying via MDM (Message 102301)

I'm trying to deploy new versions of BOINC Manager to my macOS users via an MDM (Jamf Pro).

I've looked at https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Tools_for_Mac_OS_X but am still having problems getting it to work.

Any suggestions how I can install on managed Macs? Has anyone managed to do it? I always get permissions errors after I install it remotely.

Thanks,

James.
2) Message boards : Questions and problems : Boinc freezing computer running El Capitan OS 10.11.1 (Message 70089)

I have exactly the same problem with recent versions of El Capitan.

Currently running 10.11.6 Beta (15G12a), but it has been like this since 10.11.1 I think.

BOINC 7.6.22 causes the freeze, as does all the developmental versions up to 7.6.33.

(Running on Late-2013 Power Mac - that's 16 cores and 2 GPUs just waiting to do some number crunching!)

Well, finally got it working!

The secret was to enter the following: sudo /usr/sbin/vsdbutil -a /Volumes/{external drive}

As you need enable owners on the drive where BOINC Data will be stored. See this post for more info:

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=9751&postid=58095

After enabling Owners on the external drive I ran Mac_SA_Secure.sh again, and this time I was able to start BOINC Manager with no errors about permissions.

Well, I'm now running with the GM of El Capitan. Don't get the error about No such file or directory when running the script.

But opening BOINC Manger afterwards will gives me the message, "BOINC ownership or permissions are not set properly; please reinstall BOINC. Error code -1022"

Have upgraded to Pubic Beta 6 of El Capitan, and can no longer move my Data folder to an external HD.

I follow the instructions here:

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Tools_for_Mac_OS_X

The Mac_SA_Secure.sh script complains:

/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.DirectoryServicesLocal.plist: No such file or directory

and when I start BOINC Manager I get:

BOINC ownership or permissions are not set properly; please reinstall BOINC.
(Error code -1022)

So looks like something has change in OS X 10.11. I know it's only in beta now, but if anyone has any ideas on how to modify the script that would be great.

6) Message boards : Questions and problems : Latest beta of Mac OS 10.10.4 Yosemite unusable when running BOINC (Message 62351)

Today I upgraded to the latest beta of Yosemite (OS X 10.10.4 (14E26a)) from the previous beta.

If BOINC 7.4.42 (MacOSX_x86_64) is running, the system becomes unresponsive. Eventually I can quit BOINC and things will run fine again.

Common project running on both Macs tested is World Community Grid.

Anyone else had this problem?

Any suggestions?

Hardware: Late-2013 Mac Pro and Late 2012 Mac Mini.

Thanks,

James.
