1) Message boards : Questions and problems : Restrict VirtualBox tasks when PC is in use?
Message 98314 Posted 4 May 2020 by Pichu0102 |
I don't think there's a way to do this, but I might have missed it in my searches: is there a way to restrict tasks that use VirtualBox to only run when the PC is not in use, like one can set GPU tasks to only be run when the PC is not in use while letting CPU tasks run always? I ask because even with vboxheadless.exe tasks set to low priority manually, they still cause performance issues while using my PC. I'd like to contribute with VirtualBox if I can, just not while I'm using the PC, and so far from the configuration documentation I read there only seems to be use VB or don't use VB. Is that right, or did I miss something? |

Oh, right. Sorry, I missed it. One more question: Does joypad input count against the PC being considered idle, or would I need to press a key on the keyboard once every hour or so? |

I can't seem to figure out how to tell BOINC to use the CPU, but not the GPU while my PC is in use. Reason being that while things are able to take back some CPU from BOINC while it runs, the GPU does not seem as forgiving, and leads to either turning off GPU altogether, or turning off both CPU and GPU while idle, both unfavorable options. Any help? |
4) Message boards : Questions and problems : BOINC client does not respect "suspend when active" without Manager

But BOINC Manager is only a graphical interface that allows you to use commands in an easier way than having to type everything in through the command line. It doesn't add anything to the running of BOINC. Using web based preferences, 32bit BOINC client. Running BOINC as service (I think that's what protected app mode install does anyways). Note: Behavior disappeared with upgrade to 6.2.19. Also brought a new process with the default boinc.exe; boinctray.exe which stays even if boinc manager is quit. Should I continue to post prefs file, or would this be considered resolved? |

For some reason, when running BOINC, I can close the manager, but the BOINC client itself will stop respecting my "only run after 5 minute idle" preference. I can see this because while the manager is closed, the task manager reports BOINC processes (like the wcg projects) as taking up a lot of CPU, but as soon as the manager opens, they drop to 0 usage. Running version 6.2.18 if that helps. |
