My reading of your query is that "I have set Activity to "Run Always" and Boinc works fine" as in the client runs if the computing preferences are ignored. That's a good sign.

There's that little pestilence of an preference on the website location profiles, not on the client, that makes BOINC go to sleep if there is no mouse/keyboard input (don't know about joysticks and the like). At WCG it's "Stop work after computer is idle for: nn minutes". If the client is set to only compute when idle and the client is told to go snooze because of lack of user input, it may never start if the times to resume and time to snooze overlap. Can't think of another possible ATM.

Another 'feature' unrelated, if computing is suspended also the networking is stopped. Often I see such a comment in the event log, whenever the client is paused do to too high [non-BOINC] CPU load.

I don't see anything like this - "Stop work after computer is idle for: nn minutes" in any of my project computing preferences. I have gone to every project and set the following (or its equivalent)

"Suspend work while computer is on battery power? yes
Suspend work while computer is in use? yes
Suspend GPU work while computer is in use? yes
'In use' means mouse/keyboard activity in last 1 minutes

Which all seem consistent with my local settings anyway.

For the record, my projects are

SETI
Rosetta
MilkyWay
Cosmology
Einstein
Asteroids

Correction to above post

"Suspend work if no mouse/keyboard activity in last 0 minutes"

What your problem is exactly, write it out in as much detail as you can.
As stated, BOINC will not come out of suspension when the computer is not in use. Activity is set to "Run based on preferences" and "Network activity based on preferences". . The little Boinc tray icon has the "pause" symbol in the bottom right corner.

I have my processor and network preferences set as follows (I tried hotlinking these images but I could not get it to work)

The project(s) that you have the problems with.
All projects. Its BOINC itself that does not come out of suspension.

What you have done so far to try to remedy the problem.

1. I have set Activity to "Run Always" and Boinc works fine
2. Downloaded and installed the latest Boinc
2. Reset all Project to the same set of preference and tried usind the web based preferences rather than computer based preference. No change.
