7.18 doesn't work on Linux. For what is worth the BOINC in the repos of my Xubuntu 22.04 is called 7.20 "preview version".

Thank you for the additional commands. BOINC starts at startup now !

(On the precedent ubuntu versions you did not need to type commands, it started out of the box) Hence the poorer work from Canonical.

I installed BOINC from the ubuntu repos.

When i want to start form the menu i get an error window:

"Impossible d'exécuter boinc manager
le changement de répertoire /var/lib/boinc-client a échoué (permission non accodrée)"

That suggest a permissions problem.

Ok, i managed to changes the permission of the folder. Now i get a boinc manager window that tells me:

"Boinc manager (pre release) ne peut pas démarrer un client BOINC. Merci d'exécuter le client et de réessayer."

Ok, i searched the net and found a workaround: i type in a terminal:

sudo systemctl start boinc-client

Before relaunching the boinc manager. And it finally works; With the GPU enabled. I leave this here in case someone would be in trouble like i was. But what a shoddy work by canonical !

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Maybe i should ask my question in another part of the forum. It is common to hear left and right that unix users represent around 1% of personal computer users. It may be true for publics like videogamers or secretaries but amongst the web communities i frequent, when there is a survey of the OSes people use linux represent often around 20% of the users.

I am not talking about unix websites of course. But science/tech/computer sites

So, i am curious about the proportion of linux crunchers in BOINC. In term of accounts, machines and credit. If such statistic exists.

I have googled my question but found nothing.

I installed nvidia modprobe via synaptic. If you don't have synaptic yet install it trough ubuntu's software manager. Then you open synaptic and you do a search. The interface is pretty clear.

I usually install my stuff trough synaptic. It's the usual GUI way in debian.
