@ drghughes - look back through this thread for certificate download links. There are two: my amateur hack, and an official download site for a reliable version. Either will do - you don't have to edit the file yourself, just drop the replacement (renamed in the latter case) into your BOINC program location.

Thanks Richard! I have bitten the bullet and fortunately all has gone okay.

To answer the previous question: no, we have no idea when work will even start on a new release, let alone when it will be tested and ready. There has been total silence on this subject from UC Berkeley. The volunteer initiative which seemed promising yesterday morning has petered out with no further progress.

So if I want a fix, the only reliable way at the moment is to manually change the security certificate?

Does anyone know when the new version will be available?

Thanks!

I've just seen this happen with v7.0.28 too.

Ever since I've been running v6.12.34, I've noticed that from time to time, when BOINC downloads new tasks, it will immediately preempt an existing task and switch to one of the new tasks immediately, rather than waiting for the existing task to checkpoint.

Is this a bug in the scheduler, or is there some good reason for throwing away the work that has been done since the last checkpoint on the task that is preempted?

I'm sure that this didn't happen on v6.10.x or earlier versions.
6) Message boards : BOINC client : How do I stop GPU processing? (Message 37981)

You should also be able to use the <no_gpus> option in cc_config. This should solve the problem once and for all, so even if a project introduces GPU processing, you won't run those tasks.

I then rebooted and relogged back into my personal account (which had just previously been fine running BOINC). I no longer could run the client, now getting the error "You currently are not authorized to manage the client." If I switch to the admin account then BOINC runs okay, but only there.

I'm pretty sure that I solved this problem using the approach set out here. Note that you need to run the Command Prompt using an administrator account, i.e. either log on using an andminstrator account or right click the icon and choose "Run as administrator".
8) Message boards : BOINC client : Long term debt doesn't run down (Message 20234)

Hi Peter!

    * if the project server is out of work for say 3 weeks a month, it's LTD on your host will not go down at all during that period - this is possibly your main issue?,

No, that's what I'd expect.

    * New SIMAP work will be downloaded if available SIMAP tasks are processed and BOINC cache gets partially emptied. Except that all other projects' LTDs will be that low, that SIMAP tasks would be the only ones in your cache. Just in such case the SIMAP tasks will be crunched full-time and regardless of the resource share, not interleaved with other projects' tasks.

This is what I'm not seeing, i.e. I never see the situation where the other projects' LTD go so negative that BOINC will only download SIMAP work. As a result, the SIMAP LTD seems to become a bigger and bigger positive. Maybe I'm just not being patient enough.

Anyhow, the LTD seems to be very unsophisticated. I just detached a project that had a large negative LTD (it had been running in panic mode for a while) and the negative LTD was divided equally among all the remaining projects, rather than according to their resource shares. So SIMAP, with a small resource share, had its LTD reduced by as much as the project with the largest resource share, which hardly seems fair.

Hi Sekerob!

No to both questions.

Thanks

I have a couple of projects where the long term debt doesn't seem to run down, even though work is available.

The best example is SIMAP where work is generally only available for a week or so each month.

I've given SIMAP a small resource share on the assumption that it will build up a debt over the month and then run it down when work is available, but this doesn't seem to be the case. Instead, BOINC only seems to request (and schedule) work consistent with the current resource share rather than the long term debt.

Is this the way that things are supposed to work, or does BOINC have a problem with projects like this that only have work sporadically?
