I'm running windows 7... I think the best compromise is just to drop my projects that are using my GPU (its only 1 anyways, its ATI) and go CPU-only until this is fixed (I hope it is fixed some day).

What is the best way to do this? Right now I have two accounts, and when I'm logged onto my guest account, CPU usage goes to 100% because the admin account goes idle.

How do I stop this from happening?

Thanks in advance - I need to fix this if I'm to keep running BOINC on my main machine.

I am using 6.10.35 and the fix does not work for me. My LCD shut-off time is set to two hours and my screen saver is set to come on after 20 minutes. When I wake up from leaving the computer on over night the screen saver is still on.

The only way to get the screen to power down is to change the screensaver to something thats not BOINC. Your BOINC will continue to run but you don't get to see the pretty graphics.

Is this being worked on still?

In my milkyway@home preferences I have set to use 1% of GPU, yet looking at my catalyst drivers overdrive tab it shows it using around 85% activity when BOINC is running. I have played with a few different settings and it hasn't seemed to make a difference.

Today is the first day that I've noticed my ATI GPU being used for milkyway calculations.

This is a problem because at the current percentage its overheating my GPU and freezing my com...

current solution is to underclock my gpu.

Does this post belong here or in milkyway@home forums?

I figured it out. The newer (6.10.x) versions of BOINC are detecting the ATI gpu on my lenovo and therefore not letting it switch the graphics. So I went back to 6.6.38 and now I can switch the graphics!

Hopefully there will be a fix that will allow me to use my gpu for computation and still switch the gpus.

Yeah, just tried that, still says some video or 3d program is running and it can't switch the graphics. Have to quit BOINC completely to switch them.

When having BOINC installed in windows 7 64 bit on my lenovo T-400, the switchable graphics don't work. It basically says that the program is a 3-d or video program and you need to quit it before you switch the graphics.

If I quit BOINC manager (and tell it to stop running science apps), then I can switch the graphics.

I have a feeling this might be related to the windows 7 power save mode not working that is being reported.

I've noticed this too. Suspending BOINC doesn't work. You have to disable your screensaver entirely or make the timeout really long.

When will we see the fix built into the new version? I'd like to be able to turn UAC back on to get this annoying icon to go away :)

Yes, the way to recruit large numbers of volunteers is to have them accidentally download something that they don't know what it is.

Thats exactly what the BOINC community has been planning all along.
