I knew there was somewhere to post this, but didn't see it for the trees.
Save the Wildcats - video

Save the Scottish wildcat by protecting Clashindarroch Forest!

300,000 Scottish wildcat signatures and International Cat Day!
There were a few trees weren't there... and now there's Clashindarroch's, and this is definitely a somewhere to post all of those. Thank you, WK :) I must say I do get a bit despairing of the internet for a lot of reasons, but for raising awareness of issues like those and getting the message out there - well... if it can make a difference ... it goes a long way in making up for the bad stuff.

@Les: It was pink dolphins (I think more properly known as Chinese White Dolphins) in and around Hong Kong's harbour a long time ago - where I first heard of the "phenomenon" of a pod and mother not giving up on a dead baby for a protracted period. It troubled me as much as the efforts elephants made over a dead/dying baby in Africa.

If we could suddenly, now, rewrite all those business school models and associated institutions that have so promoted the kind of "ambitions for society" that have never allowed a true cost to appear on a balance sheet anywhere - I doubt there'd be enough generations of us yet to come to produce enough branches of governments whose eyes didn't light-up only in response to money.

But I'd like very much to be proved wrong on that.

And were called the family-zebra for the duration of that time? (behind your back). ;-)
No. Straight to my face usually.

It was even suggested I could offer myself to the council as a temporary zebra crossing. Or be a horizontal version of a school lollipop lady.

It's also around that time I mastered multi-tasking the withering stare with a wounded blink. I've never regretted that. No

;)

As for the other thing - I feel for you too, Jord

@Gary
Weirdly... when I got to the bit where someone was chewing, (here) and then a bit later a cable got mentioned, everything that was said in between tumbled straight out my head, and I'd convinced myself I'd read this

...sort of. Which I hadn't, but now we all have.

Thanks, my arm is now tanned.
Oh good :)

Well, part of the arm. There's an abrupt end halfway down my biceps, where the sleeve of the T-shirt sat. But all the small bumps and blisters are gone.
I fell asleep on the deck of a ferry taking us from Piraeus to Lesbos some years back, and woke up striped all over. They lasted about two years.

Also, the nice weather is gone. Rain. Storm. Lightning. Thunder. How boring that can be all of a sudden, when you had it for three days. ;-)
We've had a lot today. We had some the night before which was lovely to go out barefoot in. Or rather it was lovely, until I slipped almost immediately going down the ramp from our front door, and tripped over a brick. It was just after I finished collecting myself from the gate that I heard my other half say: "How are you still alive after all these years?"

It is a bit of a mystery but I do hope the rain doesn't interfere too much with your holiday plans, Jord :)

It's just as well our Prime Minister isn't as sensitive as your elected one is... The art of the curtsey.

"The knees should be virtually connected but hers are about 10 inches apart. How she didn't fall over, I don't know. I was trying it just now and I couldn't balance."

And do you know what? I'm ashamed to say that it made me laugh quite a lot more than a lot :(

I know. Because is it really news? And do I approve of judgemental points being made at the expense of something so trivial... No. But I still laughed. I'm going to blame it on that whale story I posted about a little while ago. It made me so sad, my brain clung onto some light relief... and poor Theresa was it.

edit: I've isolated it...

v--That --v

because I don't where it came from.

I'm glad it's looking a lot brighter than it was earlier, Jord :) although I hope your arm is looking less bright than it was a couple of days ago.

Just an update on my last post, but from the BBC this time because it's been 16 days now.

Killer whales have been known to carry dead calves for as long as a week, but scientists believe this mother "sets a record".

"Maybe this is just her own way of just getting past the loss of another baby. She's probably lost two more in the past decade. It's got to be tragic for these animals to lose these babies, and it's happening at a record pace," said senior scientist Ken Balcomb, who works at the Centre for Whale Research, which studies the Southern Resident whale population.

Only about a third of the Southern Resident killer whales that have been born in the last 20 years survive. No pregnancies in the last three years have successfully produced viable offspring, the centre says.
That's not good news either :(

Another young whale in her pod, J50, is very emaciated and scientists are working out a rescue plan for the animal.
I don't know if they'll report back on that, but if they do... I'd really like it to be good news... because this thread is getting really depressing.

Yes, handing out the vacation slips is always interesting.
I was thinking more as a measuring stick for my own erm... state between the ears - but yes... seeing what unravels as things unravel into a vacation can be quite educational - from the outside looking in.

Welcome to the café, jglrogujgv :) I do hope I pronounced that correctly...

I also have the sneaky suspicion he's hoping to inspire unrest and revolution in Iran - now where have I heard that before - ohhhhhh yes ... the last time that was done... but unfortunately, it's easier to see why countries that feel threatened by the might of another country's "national-interests-just-not-in-their-own-backyard-but-someone-else's" do feel the need for a nuclear deterrent.

I share fdr's hopes, but my confidence is not high.

You call it interesting, methinks insanity reigns over there.
:)

That's what makes it interesting in a sort of ... way...

The furthest anyone's blown a marshmallow out of their nostril and into the mouth of a catcher is 5.46m. That's 17' 11" for those who prefer the imperial.

I've got marshmallows somewhere.

I've got paint too but you seem to have done that already ;)

I did a crash course on it within days of arriving. Except that last one... No one ever told me that one. Perhaps you have to be born here...

edit: Have a lovely holiday, Jord :)

You can never be sure when information might be really useful to someone, or when it probably wasn't, but I thought, what with people holidaying and stuff - exploring new environments and all that that might mean, that this might prove very helpful indeed.

Thanks... are not necessary... ;)

edit: I'm not convinced I put enough that's in that, but I have decided to ignore myself, so I am.

...it's Tuesday.
Ohhhhhhhh good one. Yes. Do you know what happens when you kind of drift in and then waft yours eyes over some text and only get fully up to speed in time for the last two words...?

Well that just happened...

I'm getting project down for maintenance pages, but is it down right now is saying it's up. So I'm going away to think about that for a bit.
