Will there be a viable boinc for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS soon
(Message 113447)
Posted 25 Jan 2024 by David Pickett Post: I did some digging inside files in the flatpak dist and discovered the right launch for boincmgr flatpak is: /usr/bin/flatpak run --branch=stable --arch=x86_64 --command=boincmgr edu.berkeley.BOINC But it balked at the fact that I moved the files off my ssd and put a symlink to a HD dir in their place. I seem to have broken something by moving the files to my hard disk from my ssd. When I moved the files back, it launched and found my old projects. So apparently moving the files to a different disk is a bit more involved. It would be nice if the code was not symlink adverse. Maybe I have to move the parent dir and all the flatpak app subdirs. Flatpak run is so complicated. You;d think it would put a viable script somewhere normal. Was it a failed install? Did I need to reboot after? Not seeing any online help to discover how to more properly install and run flatpak boincmgr/boinc. Not sure why the other install does not work. |

Will there be a viable boinc for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS soon
(Message 113441)
Posted 25 Jan 2024 by David Pickett Post: The boinc for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS went south a few weeks back, and I have been waiting patiently for an update. I had been running the flatpak install. Both flatpak and apt install version fail, differently. Flatpak fails to link, and apt install gets illegal instruction. |

BOINC uses historical disk size not reality
(Message 93132)
Posted 8 Oct 2019 by David Pickett Post: Since BOINC does not allow moving the disk space after install, I moved it during all tasks suspended and boinc manager exited by copying the directory to a bigger drive and putting a symbolic link in its place to that directory. When I restarted BOINC Manager, the old disk size is still in control. Of course, this is a side effect of not having configuration control of the DISK space and other install parameters as a configuration tool, even if it requires reset of all active projects. |

BOINC uses nvdia gpu not on compatibility list, crashes Ubuntu LINUX intermittently
(Message 93131)
Posted 8 Oct 2019 by David Pickett Post: I have a HP system p6803w with an NVIDIA Corporation GT218 [GeForce 210] (rev a2) GPU. BOINC instal put it to use, but my system crashed intermittently. I am using the NVIDIA drivers, not the open source nouveau alternative. I am on Ubuntu LTS 18.04.3 with all updates. I Activity->suspend GPU and the crashes stopped, but SETI seems to be waiting for the GPU. I guess I have to reinstall to stop offering my GPU, just as I have to reinstall to change my disk usage data! BOINC should have a configuration utility that allows adjustment of all parameters, even if it forces a reset of all projects! BOINC should not allow install of incompatible GPU models. |
