1) Message boards : GPUs : Multiple concurrent GPU tasks ? (Message 98009)

By the way - any chance to run projects parallel on the GPU (not round-robin) ?

Never mind - it intermixes the tasks if there's enoughGPU share for some task ... I'm satisfied ;-)

But you run FAH on the GPU, so if you want to run one more of their tasks on the GPU, you'll have to ask them if that's possible. FAH doesn't run under BOINC.

I'm aware of that ... (it nags me to be precise ... why don't they use BOINC ?).

Thanks for the tip, I'll investigate that.

Hi friends,

I'm sitting here and watch my (single .. <sigh!>) NVIDIA RTX 2080super crunching data.

Interstingly I see that my machine is capable of (alongside running Rosetta@home WUs on the CPU)

    - cruncing a BOINC project (Milkyway, SETI, Einstein)
    - running folding@home on the GPU and
    - do some GPU-accelerated video transcoding

concurrently (!).

The only project that's capable to wind up my GPU fans to audible level all alone is SETI@home. I wonder if it's possible to stuff more than one BOINC task into that GPU ?

Any hint ?

5) Message boards : BOINC Manager : Exclusive applications settings not working under Win10pro ? (Message 72227)

Boinc Manager->(Advanced view->)Activity menu->make sure your run options are set "based on preferences". Setting it to "run always" will do exactly that and ignore preferences.

Thanks a lot - that's the perfect solution.
Had all settings (CPU/GPU/Net) on "allways" - changed that to "based on preferences" and now it behaves as I want it to.

Hi friends,

I've set BOINC to suspend crunching if certain applications are present, because it interferes with their functions. That worked well while I've been using Win7pro (x64).

I've upgraded to Win10pro (x64) not long ago, and now I observe that this functionality seems to be broken ... when I start such an application, BOINC seems not to notice that and continues cruncing on both CPU and GPU.

BOINC runs as regular process under my regular user.

Any hint what I've missed ?

"fetch work and run ony if active projects are out of work packets".

The method Ageless describes will fetch work from you backup project only if your preferred project has no work, however you should be warned that if your receive tasks from the backup and receive tasks from the preferred later, tasks from the backup will not be auto-aborted or suspended. (..)

That would not be an adored behaviour, but is acceptable. Maybe that part could be enhanced.

Besides of simply rotating thru the projects by time-slices I would like to have the following:

An option to set a project to "fetch work and run ony if active projects are out of work packets". That would give the option to run my preferred project with max priority without going idle if that project is down.

Hello,

Burning up a PS3 and having to buy them another, or buying a quadcore that is designed for this purpose wasn't a difficult choice.

PS3 etc. - OK. But a flatrate DSL/VoIP modem box usually idles around 24/7 while using electric power, a new quad core would cost money AND extra energy.

Utilizig such a box would add computing power for free (besides of the possible extra power consumption for running 100%) - which is one of the main features of BOINC. And many boxes reside in cool basment rooms - no risk of overheating 'em.

BTW: Anybody out there who wants to join my seti@home team NATHAN ? :-)

Hello,

...
The only obstacle I find - besides of low ressources in one or another box - is the lack of any display ... that would require a BOINC manager able to manage a remote client or a web browser interface within the client.
...

BOINC Manager is able to manage a remote client. (...)

Ooops - I've not been aware of that.

So the only thing in the way would be to create a client for i.e. AVM's Fritz!Box and find a way to install it on top of the firmware. Any volunteers around ?

Hi friends,

I just got an idea ... out there is a lot (a very large lot) of devices that run based on some kind of linux, permanently running and most of the time idling lazy around. What I mean are i.e. such devices like DSL modems (i.e. AVM Fritz!Box), routers, and other thingies pretending to be simple..

These boxes are around in numerous quantities, stay online most of the time - almost all of the 24/7 I presume - and most of the time they are lazy. And in the case of DSL modem boxes, they are online 24/7 ! Did anybody thing about hooking a BOINC client into them ?

The only obstacle I find - besides of low ressources in one or another box - is the lack of any display ... that would require a BOINC manager able to manage a remote client or a web browser interface within the client.

Any comment to that concept ?
