I've been running Boinc on several computers for many years, and never had a problem like this. Even the former version installed fine on this 8.1 box, so I wrongly concluded there may be a glitch in the new version. There have been a few glitches with other apps and Win 8.0 & 8.1 - I'll check out the FAQ page for future reference. In the meantime, I'll stick with the previous version. On the bright side, this thread may be of help to someone else in a similar situation. Thanks again!

(Message 51695) Posted 11 Dec 2013 by James Helvey Post: Windows 64-bit BOINC version 7.2.33 just crashed during setup on Win 8.1 - it could not find the correct "BOINC.msi" installation file. I searched the computer and located 3 possible locations, but to no avail. Finally had to cancel the install, BUT it also took out the previous installation! Had to do a system restore to get it back, which opened another can of worms, because I'd just finished doing major cleanups and defrag on the system - aaaaargh!!! BEWARE!!!
