Looks like a reboot solved the problem.

I ran the script, but there is an error about not finding the switcher application:

Argus:~ nello$ sudo sh /Library/Application\ Support/BOINC\ Data/Mac_SA_Secure.sh
Password:
Changing directory /Volumes/MacUsers/User/users/nello file ownership to user and group boinc_master - OK? (y/n)
y
Can't find switcher application in directory /Volumes/MacUsers/User/users/nello; exiting
Argus:~ nello$

Did I run it from the wrong directory? How do I get the switcher application?

I downloaded the file and read the comments and have some questions:

# Make a BOINC installation "secure" on a Macintosh with stand-alone BOINC Client
# The BOINC installer does this for a Macintosh installation with BOINC Manager;
# the BOINC Manager contains the BOINC client embedded in its bundle.
# if you ran the BOINC installer, you do not need to use this script unless you
# wish to run a separate copy of the stand-alone client in the BOINC Data
# directory.

I ran the BOINC Installer on my Mac. I'm happy to run this script, but according to this comment, it seems that it's already been run.

# Execute this as root in the BOINC directory:
# cd {path_to_boinc_directory}
# sudo sh {path}/Mac_SA_Secure.sh

Sorry to ask a stupid question, but is the BOINC directory:

/Library/Application Support/BOINC Data

I recently had a disk problem and had to restore my backup to a new disk. Now when I launch BOINC Manager I get this dialog message:

Communicating with BOINC client. Please wait …

I tried:

1. Reinstalling boinc_7.6.12_macOSX_x86_64
2. Turning off my Mac's system software firewall.

What else can I do to try getting BOINC running again?

Thank you for your help.

It can't connect to the client if the client is not running so verify that the client is running.

How can I tell if the client is running, i.e., what is the name of the client process? If it is NOT running, then how do I start it?

Thank you.

I'm trying to run BOINC on my iMac G5 running MacOS X 10.5.5.

When I choose "Select Computer" from the Advanced menu, I get this error:

"Connection Failed

"Boinc Manager is not able to connect to a BOINC client.
"Would you like to try again."

I'm using LOCALHOST and leaving the password blank.

Obviously, since I'm able to post to this message I have a network connection.

Can someone give me a clue what to try next?

Thanks.

I'm getting the error message "BOINC Manager is not able to connect to a BOINC client. Would you like to try to connect again?"

I tried "Advanced -> Select Computer..." using "localhost" and the password for my the account on my Mac. But I just get the same error message.

This installation has been working flawlessly for a long time...how do I troubleshoot this on a Mac? (I am running MacOS X 10.5.4)

Thanks.

10) Message boards : Questions and problems : Screen Saver Error on MacOS 10.5.3 (Message 17614)

I'm getting this error on my Mac running the latest OS, 10.5.3:

6/2/08 9:13:29 AM ScreenSaverEngine[13088] Warning once: This application, or a library it uses, is using NSQuickDrawView, which has been deprecated. Apps should cease use of QuickDraw and move to Quartz.

Any idea how to report this to the developer(s)?

Thanks.
