Newest version won't work as you get the dreaded battery level message. You have to go back to 7.1.1 version which is no longer on the Boinc site and I had to toot around to ffind it.

OK, i installed 7.18.1 Boinc on all of my Androids, over 50 in number. These vary from Android 4.4 to Android 11. Now then they all work well with one exception, Android 8.01 the go edition. I have 3 of these Androids and I've tried everything to get them running but no matter what I try I get the message that it will resume computing when the battery reaches 90% currently at 100%. It would also look like the slider to adjust the battery level in preferences doesn't have any effect you still get the 90%, 100% error no matter what you adjust the battery level to. I did find that deleting the Boinc Data and Boinc cache then setting the preferences again and reinstalling the projects fixed it but this only works for a few hours sadly.

Tried the latest version on 3 Androids. I get a message something like will resume when battery reaches 50% currently at 100% on 2 of the machines, and I can't get any further so will go back to 7.54.3. Both tablets are 8.01 Go Version.

Yes, 7.4.53 is now the default Boinc App in Playstore. I'm not sure what has happened to the Beta version 7.16.3. I became a Beta tester a while ago but when I added another Android this morning only 7.4.53 was available from Playstore. I also looked at previous versions of Boinc on the Berkeley site and 7.16.5 isn't there, although 7.16.3 is still there.

7.4.53 is an older version, dates back to 2016. I was going to try 7.16.5 on some of my older Androids but it had vanished from PlayStore by yesterday evening. It certainly works just fine with Android 6.0 but I'm guessing that it wasn't properly tested on newer versions.

Looks like 7.16.5 has been withdrawn as has 7.16.3.

I added a couple of Androids this morning and they picked up a new version of Boinc 7.16.5. The arrow issue has been fixed, but haven't checked to see if it works with Android 8.1 go version yet. The version of Android I installed the new Boinc version on were both Android 6.0.

Running a 64bit CPU with 32bit Android can give problems with certain project's science applications.

The only projects that I've been able to run on Android 9 are Einstein and WUProp. Asteroids and Universe will not send out tasks. YoYo and Moo Wrapper tasks will instantly fail. Rosetta rarely has Android tasks and the sole Android 9 I have has never had one. WCG ran out of tasks a while ago and it'll be months before any more are available. Seti, no idea if it works or not.

Talking about Universe@home,when my Tablet updated to Android 9 it completed all of the Universe tasks that were running and they were all validated.

If you go into advanced preferences and scroll down there are 2 new options introduced in the latest beta version. Under "Other", there are 2 options, first says "Work unit buffer",store at least x days of work and the second option is "Additional work unit buffer", store up to an additional x days of work.

Cheers,

O.K, Thanks for the explanation, I do have it turned off on all of my older Androids but neglected to do so on the ones I purchased recently, lesson learned. Another thing, while it's a nice touch to be able to adjust the amount of work (in days) to pick up it can lead to Boinc showing Zero tasks if the number of tasks is too high. I reckon the figure is around the 50 mark. While the tasks proceed O.K you are working blind until the figure drops to 50 or so. I set my 8 core Android to 3 days and picked up 140 Einstein tasks!!

Cheers,

Expand collapse not working for me. More seriously though I installed the latest beta version on an Android 8.1 Go version Tablet and it stopped working after a few seconds. Rebooting didn't make any difference so I quit the Beta project and installed the stable version. I then rejoined the Beta project and installed the latest version on a few different Androids...Versions 4.4, 6.0, 8.0 and 9.0 and apart from the collapse/expand problem they all worked just fine. Then, a few days ago I discovered that 7.16.3 had installed itself without my permission on another of my 8.1 Go version Androids and this too had stopped working and several days of work were lost. Then just this morning I discovered another install without permission on an Android 7.0 device...luckily this install is working O.K. So to sum up Android 8.1 Go version failed on 2 of my machines (one an Alco, the other a Lenovo) and somehow or other it has installed itself on 2 of my machines without me going on to Play Store!! I have temporarily left the Beta project until the problem with 8.1 is sorted.

Thanks,

Pete

Yes, a couple of possible issues, these may not be related to the new Beta version but I've not had these issues before. First off, the Android I use for making phone calls was recently updated from Android 7.1 to Android 8.1. I can't say for sure that this is related to this update as I don't make that many phone calls, but now after every phone call I make I have to reboot the phone as I keep getting the message that reads something like "You can only use one version of Boinc". Pressing Exit and attempting to get back into Boinc results in the same message time after time. Secondly, pausing a task often results in the green arrow restart task icon vanishing completely so there's no way of restarting that task without a reboot. I'm seeing this on all versions of Android from 4.4 to 8.1.

Cheers,

Pete

Version 7.0.64 which came from here. The 12.4 million slots have now finally been deleted, took 9 hours, and I took a chance and restarted Boinc. I obviously lost any work in progress but on restarting it re-initialized all my projects (apart from a couple of dead ones) and picked up work. Unfortunately, I deleted a few other files including stdoutdae.txt in fact everything after the 04:15 entry for Volpex, which just looked to be an attempt to get work, the next entry was at 09:30 when I restarted Boinc.

The machine in question is part of an 8 machine farm and they all run pretty well the same projects, none of the other machines running a mix of Windows 7/8/XP SP2 and SP3 have been affected.

It's the latest version of boinc, updated about a month ago running on WinXP SP2, Intel dual core, Nvidia 460GT, 2gb Ram running various tasks. Machine first had boinc installed in December 2006 and has run without fault since then. What other info do you need?

O.K, anybody seen anything like this. Overnight Boinc has stopped running on one of my machines. I restarted the machine, same problem, the icon on the taskbar indicated it was connecting to the client but it never did. Did some checks and found to my amazement that from going awry at about 4 in the morning until 10 in the morning it had created some 12 million plus slots, What the hell. Goodness knows whats happened and deleting all the slots is going take for ever.
