Boinc not Stopping when computer in Use

Posted 3 Jun 2013 by jimzak Post: I just experienced another round of BOINC eating my breakfast. Both Rosetta and Seti continued to run when I resumed using my computer, rendering it useless. When I killed those processes, everything was fine. Should I take it up with both the Rosetta and Seti folks? |

Posted 26 May 2013 by jimzak Post: I'm having the same problem with Windows XP 32-bit. I'm using the latest version, downloaded today 7.0.64. I couldn't figure out what was the problem (PROFOUND mouse lag) until I opened up MS Process Explorer and found that SETI was still running when I started using the computer and it would stay running until I killed it within Process Explorer. When I killed it, the computer began to run smoothly again. I have GPU (Nvidia 9800). I have the activity menu selections to run only per the preferences settings. It really is quite a change for the app to run this way but it's been happening for a couple of weeks now at least. Ubuntu: BOINC takes 100% processor time ALL the time

Posted 26 May 2013 by jimzak Post: No. it's not. It's already been reported to the developers that the idle tracking has broken again. On various distros including Ubuntu. This is killing me on Windows XP 32-bit with a quad core processor and 4 GB RAM. I'm going to have to kill BOINC on this computer until there is a fix. Pity because I've been with the project for > 14 years. |

BOINC inoperable on new installation

Posted 29 May 2008 by jimzak Post: OK. Comodo is so complex I couldn't really figure out what settings to do. BOINC was listed as a trusted application. So I uninstalled it and immediately BOINC started working (after a reboot). So I installed Online Armor Free which seems to be highly rated and it is compatible with BOINC. FYI. PS Maybe someone should add this experience to the FAQ. Thanks. |

Posted 29 May 2008 by jimzak Post: Thanks for your post. I am the sole user of this computer and the administrator. There is only one account. I use Comodo Personal firewall, latest version. I closed it down during the last installation to see if it was the problem, and that did not help. I just closed it down again. I installed as a single-user installation as I have always done. I just uninstalled, deleted the directory, and reinstalled as you suggested. For simplicity, I just attached to SETI. BOINC inoperable on new installation

Posted 29 May 2008 by jimzak Post: I recently installed BOINC 5.10.45 on a new install of Windows XP SP2. Since that time I have been unable to produce any results. I am not sure why. I am a long time account holder with WorldCommunity Grid, Rosetta and SETI. This is the first time in running the software for probably 4-5 years that I have been unable to produce any analysis. Hardware: ASUS mainboard AMD 64x2 4400+ 2 GB RAM Nvidia 7800 video card with latest drivers Creative X-Fi card I am behind a Linksys WRT54GL via Ethernet.
