It was the data directory. I searched but never found the client_state, so I un-installed and then re-installed just to find the correct directory. Works now. Thanks for your help guys.

Still coming up as not used.

I didn't have the config file, but I created according to this:
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Client_configuration

I even had the client 'read config file,' but nothing came up in the messages about the GPU. When I run the xml file it loads in explorer without any errors, so the syntax is right.

I just installed a 'new' old 8800GTS. I get this message.

4/12/2011 9:56:29 PM NVIDIA GPU 1 (not used): GeForce 8800 GTS (driver version 26724, CUDA version 3020, compute capability 1.0, 285MB, 259 GFLOPS peak)

What does not used mean? The card isn't getting any work.
Windows is recognizing it with the dummy plug in, but BOINC won't give it any work. My other card:

4/12/2011 9:56:29 PM NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce GTX 470 (driver version 26724, CUDA version 3020, compute capability 2.0, 1248MB, 1120 GFLOPS peak)

BOINC version is 6.10.58 running on Win7 x64. Could it be the cards have a different compute capability and work can't be split in such a way? I haven't tried running just the GTS by itself.

I'm not a enthusiast gamer, but I do play some COD4 and FO3 so having a nice GPU setup is a must. Be that as it may, I would also like to run this new CUDA deal and from what I gather, the power in the GPU for CUDA comes from the stream processors. Now of course all things are not equal, but as I upgrade I should look for cards with a high stream processor count to help move things along. Any other help will be appreciated.

Another question, will SLI scale as typical ~10% or will a second card double the performance?

There was an earlier thread on this, where the problem was caused by a disk space issue. So do check into that negative amount of disk space that you're seeing.

Do know that the error is a Windows Installer error.

I found that and the link that lists possible causes is dead. It is not a space issue since it's a fresh install. It didn't last the night so I have to try again so hopefully there's an update that I won't miss this time.

I get this message,Internal Error 2803. NoDialog, when I try to install BOINC on this machine. New build. AMD X2 6400+, 2x640GB RAID 0, 4GB DDR2 800MHz, 8600GTS OC, XP Pro SP3.

I noticed that my main drive is labeled as being -858MB and it gives me a warning that I do not have sufficient space to install. My array is 1.16TB and it must be such a large number that in the 1's complement it is taking that leading 1 to be the negative indicator instead of the value that it is actually representing.
