1) Message boards : The Lounge : Machines with 6-8GB of RAM getting more common?
Message 17376 Posted 18 May 2008 by Mike Kriss |
Well my notebook computer just crashed and I had to buy a "cheap" replacement this week. It was a Toshiba with 17 inch monitor, all the bells and whistles, and 3 gigs of ram. That was only $699. I was pretty shocked it came with that much ram. It seems to me if a "cheap" laptop gives you that much the high level desktops should be offering at least 5 gigs of ram right now. I didn't look at them but I would bet they do. |
2) Message boards : The Lounge : Celebrities running BOINC

I know of one major celebrity that was 3 or 4 years ago but I don't think he is anymore. Privacy concerns. |

It's not quite that much you have to remember that is including endorsements and the whole nine. That means "up to" 250 per year. That would be the maximum limit it could approach. He's looking at making only a small fraction of that right now. |
4) Message boards : Server programs : Sun buys MySQL
Message 17373 Posted 18 May 2008 by Mike Kriss |
I was shocked to find out Sun Microsystems bought MySQL. I know Sun has taken some steps to make it's software open, but are they looking to replace MySQL with another solution? What are some of the ramifications for BOINC? Gosh I sure hope not. I love the way MySQL is right now and I do think it could have some negative ramifications for BOINC depending on the direction Sun goes with it. |
5) Message boards : Web interfaces : How to prevent Boinc from publishing my statistics online?
Message 17372 Posted 18 May 2008 by Mike Kriss |
I understand your concern but as the other member said, the internet is far from anonymous. Remember it's just statistics and nothing personal they're gathering from your computer. I wouldn't worry about it. |
6) Message boards : Teams : Are you intersted in the PARANORMAL. . . ?
Message 17371 Posted 18 May 2008 by Mike Kriss |
Absolutely. The SETI project is perhaps the one Boinc project I'm most passionate about right now. The reason I've held off on the climate prediction is I feel we need more sound information to make our predictions based on. |
