@ Jord: (see also previous text)
problem appeared with Boinc 7.0.65.
Uninstalling and New install did not solve the trouble.
Uninstalled again and installed previous version.
Now running.

For the time being everything is running ...

I switched the Monitor off through the energy saving function (active edges), switched it after some time on again - it continued normal.

The fan is continuously on - at the moment it seems back to normal.

So, I have been sitting in front of BOINC now for the last hour and there is a strange phenomenon:

I monitored BOINC Manager and had the activity list sorted as all processes in hierarchic order. The CPU usage was up to 100%.

All of a sudden everything under BOINC stopped. Without that I had done anything.

I looked to the BOINC Manager: time was counting, progress figures stopped. I looked to the activity list: CPU usage went down to 2 - 5 %, CPU usage of BOINC processes (the project programs such as SETI) was 0%. This is lasted for some minutes.

As unexpected as it stopped, it started again. First it remained with a maximum CPU usage of 25%. Again after a couple of minutes it went up again to nearly 100%.

I changed the setting under preferences maximum CPU time usage from 80% to 100%. Since then it continued running 100% with all projects and progress is now increasing in all projects which are not superseded.

I continue monitoring ...

Clarifiation: I remained so far with the previous version of BOINC Manager, being 7.0.31.

Thanks for the hint - I checked the firewall and switched it off. No change.

I uninstalled BOINC with the Uninstaller and re-installed it. No change.

I uninstalled Boinc and installed the previous version available from the website. No change, whether the firewall is switched on or off - in between including a restart of the computer.

For the uninstall I also deleted the BOINC Preference file in the /library/preferences directory, but I left the data and restarted boinc with the existing data.

After restart while I am working on the computer BOINC Manager continues to display progress and does not have any problem. If I walk away for some time (and I cannot say which is the time required) then the connection between Boinc Manager and the programs is lost. The only thing that changes is that the display is switched off (no screensaver, only display switched off).

The computer itself is a Mac Mini Server, 10.8.4. All updates installed. There is no antivirus or firewall from third party installed.

Anyone any idea?

Best regards

Phil

Well, perhaps I make it more precise:
there are four project that i am running. All have work units. Nevertheless the execution stops.

What are the effects: I open the boinc client. Normally figures are changing for the work units that are computed (8 at the same time, two of each four projects). Now, after some time left computing alone, I reopen the boinc client window and nothing is changing.

If I want to change settings a small window opens "communicating with the boinc client ... and nothing happens. I have to close it, as the boinc client (or the applications managed by it) appear stuck.

What to do?

Hi,
the boinc manager installed on a MAC appears to stop working without that anyone touches the MAC. It is set to compute with max 80% of CPU time and the cooler can be heard. Switching it to 20% the cooler is not heard however you can foloow the ongoing computation in the boinc manager.

Now, a couple of times wihtout that anyone worked on the MAC it stopped computing. If the window of the boinc manager is opened, there is no change in the figures, the cooler stopped if running at 80% and also the user interface seemed stuck.

What to do?
