I know I've seen several semi-related posts, but they are old and not necessarily on point, so I'm adding this one.

I've noticed that since 5.10.x my computer will freeze while running the BOINC screen saver. I've gone through 5.10.13, 5.10.28 and now on 5.10.45 with the same results. This is generally a hard freeze, requiring a hard reset, though on rare occasions I can wiggle the mouse and kit keys on the keyboard and it may un-freeze. There is never any mesasge in the BOINC Manager log that seems relevant when I can un-freeze the computer and when I have to reset, the log starts anew.

I tried every reasonable suggestion and solution presented in these forums, but nothing worked, so... after installing 5.10.45, and getting another lockup, I disabled the BOINC screen saver and to my great surprise discovered that the client still crunches when it is supposed to, but no more freezing.

I thought I was going to have to have to quit SETI after nine years, but now I am happy to report that I can continue.
