I'm confused!!!

There are Preferences on each host.
And more Preferences in each account on the Projects' websites.
The Resources column in Boinc Manager doesn't behave as I expect when I modify the above Preferences.
Somehow boinc decides what Tasks to download to the client.
The client decides what Tasks to run.
There are cryptic messages in the Event Log.
There are hosts with different resources and different sets of projects.

Is it any wonder I'm confused?

    Fussed with the terminal preferences and the default colors are readable now.
    Not sure if something is diverting keystrokes before they get to boinctui.
    It would help if I knew how it's supposed to work.

    For some reason, boincmgr is not working on my manjaro system.
    Instead of trying to solve the problem, I ran away from it.
    I got boinctui running after fussing with gui_rpc_auth.cfg and .boinctui.cfg.
    I need a manual.
    I haven't figured out how to navigate its menus.
    The colors are very low contrast and hard to read on my screen.

    On Manjaro with all current updates.
    Was running Boinc Manager 7.16.11-1 package with no problems for quite a while.
    Now boincmgr is failing with:

    $ boincmgr
    10:44:36: Warning: Mismatch between the program and library build versions detected.
    The library used 3.0 (wchar_t,compiler with C++ ABI 1013,wx containers,compatible with 2.8),
    and your program used 3.0 (wchar_t,compiler with C++ ABI 1014,wx containers,compatible with 2.8).

    Tried uninstalling the boinc package.

    And, the downloaded the recommend 7.4.22 from the boinc website.

    The installation shell script appeared to work. But, when I:

    $ ./BOINC/run_manager
    ./boincmgr: error while loading shared libraries: libnotify.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

    libnotify 0.7.9-1 is installed.

    But, apparently it is the wrong version.

    There is no event log

    It's a NUC8i7BEH with an Intel i7-8559U cpu.

    Trying to get boinc running on manjaro. Some googling leads to an ArchWiki page, that says to:

    ln -s /var/lib/boinc/gui_rpc_auth.cfg gui_rpc_auth.cfg

    But, /var/lib/boinc is an empty directory.

    Also, I am getting messages about the BOINC client exiting unexpectedly.

    Installed BOINC Manager 7.16.7-1 on the latest Manjaro with all updates installed.
