Feature BOINC on Donald Trump's Celebrity Apprentice
(Message 46109)
Posted 24 Oct 2012 by Franco Lettieri Post: I have a great idea for an episode of Donald Trump's Celebrity Apprentice. Which ever contestant builds the most powerful processing team on Progress Thru Processors or World Community Grid in a given amount of time wins!! They'll have to make appointments with corporations/ businesses and convince them to participate/ become sponsors. Would be great educational publicity for BOINC applications!! |

SETI@home is a waste of time, computing power & electricity
(Message 46100)
Posted 24 Oct 2012 by Franco Lettieri Post: Did not know that. Ok, so It served its purpose as BOINC is awesome, but now that those other applications exist like protein folding/drug research, switch to them!! |

Posted 24 Oct 2012 by Franco Lettieri Post: No offense but that's the way I feel. Alien civilizations that do exist are probably too technologically advanced be detected by radio waves. Aliens could literally be sitting right behind you and your computer watching you read this and be silently laughing and you would never know it!! Lets solve problems here on earth first!! Switch to protein folding or something that we know for sure benefits humanity!!! |

Volunteer Grid Computing needs Celebrity Endorser
(Message 46096)
Posted 23 Oct 2012 by Franco Lettieri Post: We need a Celebrity Endorser (Bill Clinton, Newt Gingrich, Lady Gaga) to get publicity for volunteer Grid computing and make it cool and trendy to participate. We need to send a message to everyone that turning your computer off or letting it sit idle is a waste. Also need to get people over their fear of getting viruses on their computer and help them to understand how grid computing can benefit them and their family. Would also help if all major Universities/ School districts would participate. Make all participators eligible for a raffle isn't a bad idea either. |

D Wave Quantum Computers
(Message 46094)
Posted 23 Oct 2012 by Franco Lettieri Post: Hi, I was wondering if you are familiar with a Vancouver, Canada computing company called D Wave. It could present a major disruptive force in the World of high speed/performance computing. This leads me to believe it could affect Boinc in the future. Here are links to the website and an M.I.T. Technology Review article. I hope to hear your opinions about this company that has intrigued the U.S. C.I.A., Google, Amazon and Lockheed Martin to invest in it. http://www.technologyreview.com/news/429429/the-cia-and-jeff-bezos-bet-on-quantum-computing/ http://www.dwavesys.com http://blogs.nature.com/news/2012/08/d-wave-quantum-computer-solves-protein-folding-problem.html |
