That BOINC Manager is just listening, not having established a connection with BOINC? But that's what it says when it complains that it cannot connect to a client. What is PID 1516? Boincmgr.exe or boinc.exe? Only when both BOINC Manager and the BOINC client are communicating with each other, will they be listed as Established. For instance, for me, it says: [pre] Local Address Foreign Address TCP 127.0.0.1:31416 127.0.0.1:60777 ESTABLISHED 4336 TCP 127.0.0.1:60777 127.0.0.1:31416 ESTABLISHED 4712 [/pre] PID 4336 = Boinc.exe PID 4712 = Boincmgr.exe So normal communications.[/quote] hey!, i'm not trynig Â´to sayÂ´ anything, i just need some help to get boinc working, i opened the port, i set exceptions on the win firewall for boinc.exe and mngr, unninstalled and reinstalled, cleaned the register after each installation, iÂ´ve read a lot of forums and aditional info on ports, firewall, networking and win xp, i donÂ´t seem to find the problem thatÂ´s why iÂ´m asking for help, iÂ´m sorry for my limited knowledge, pid 1516 is boinc.exe (on my machine), thanks

5) Message boards : Questions and problems : boinc can`t connect Message 43674 Posted 22 Apr 2012 by jackysch	What kind of firewall do you have on the Windows XP machine? last night i downloaded and installed a 64bit version on another machine (win7)/4gb ram, the installation sequence was different, at some point i was requested for a project and login/pass info, in this case seti@home, That's normal. When you install BOINC clean on a machine that's never had BOINC before, or where the data directory was removed, it'll offer you to add (a) project(s) at the end of the installation. This also shows that both the client and the manager are running and that they can communicate with each other, something that they don't do on your XP machine. So something on your XP machine refuses to allow BOINC its parts, the client (boinc.exe) and the user interface (boincmgr.exe), to communicate with each other. You'll have to figure out what that is. If you don't use the Windows firewall, but a third party firewall (Kapersky, Norton, ZoneAlarm, Comodo, Outpost, etc.) then you will have to instruct that firewall how BOINC should pass. the xp machine never had boinc before, this is a new machine to boinc, i downloaded the newest version and installed fresh, the only firewall is winÂ´s, i also turned it off, rebooted, nothing, the antivirus is nod32, iÂ´ve even tried this: firewall off + av off, nopE, thx
6) Message boards : Questions and problems : boinc can`t connect Message 43672 Posted 22 Apr 2012 by jackysch	hi, i uninstalled, installed new version, canÂ´t conect to localhost, this was the installation sequence: install->license->configuration->ready to install->installation-> launch boinc mngr, last night i downloaded and installed a 64bit version on another machine (win7)/4gb ram, the installation sequence was different, at some point i was requested for a project and login/pass info, in this case seti@home, thanks i forgot to mention, av is nod32, last night i ran 2 different malware/spyware programs, machine seems clean

How did you install BOINC? Do you remember? As service, or as normal user? Did you have a GPU at one point and did you remove it without uninstalling its drivers? Could it be that something else on your system is using port 31416? You aren't trying to start a second BOINC Manager, are you? also i donÂ´t see any active conection under tools->option->conections though i have internet access That's normal. This option is only used by dial-up and VPN connections, not by xDSL, Cable and LAN connections, as then the OS takes care of the connection. * yes, boinc and boincmgr are running, * i donÂ´t remember installation, maybe user, but itÂ´s not an upgrade, itÂ´s a fresh v7 installation, * no previous gpu, (almost) new machine, graphic card is nvidia geforce 7300se/7200 gs * if i run (in cmd): netstat -an \|find /i "31416" i get this: tcp 127.0.0.1:31416 (space) 0.0.0.0:0 (space) listening *no, i installed, rebooted, never worked, thanks

10) Message boards : Questions and problems : boinc can`t connect Message 43644 Posted 21 Apr 2012 by jackysch	hi, just downloaded version 7.0.25, it wonÂ´t recognize active connection, exception were made on firewall for both boinc.exe and boincmgr.exe, opened port tcp 31416, nothing, it wonÂ´t connect, thanks in advance for your time win xp-sp3, 3gb ram, intel e5200
