1) Message boards : Android : No New Tasks after completing several task sets
Message 71654 Posted 17 Aug 2016 by nanoprobe |
After letting the newer version finish its' tasks I uninstalled it. I was then able to open the older version and install it. Running Einstein tasks now. |

Download or 'Installation' from unknown sources? (using APK installer to actually execute the apk package) Installation. Downloaded it from 3 different mirrors. Still won't open. |

I've been having the same problem on my Android even after updating to the latest version. I tried using the link above to download the older version but my phone couldn't open it. Have the same issue on a Pine64 board with Android 5.1.1 installed. Downloads from unknown sources is allowed and the package downloaded but I can't get it to open. |

Problem solved. Installing the new driver did not install opencl or cuda. Used synaptic package manager to install both and GPU is now recognized. 6 7/30/2016 8:32:36 AM CUDA: NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce GTX 1060 6GB (driver version 367.35, CUDA version 8.0, compute capability 6.1, 4096MB, 3994MB available, 4535 GFLOPS peak) 8 7/30/2016 8:32:36 AM OpenCL: NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce GTX 1060 6GB (driver version 367.35, device version OpenCL 1.2 CUDA, 6072MB, 3994MB available, 4535 GFLOPS peak) |

Message 71081 Posted 30 Jul 2016 by nanoprobe |
Just installed a new GTX 1060 and updated drivers to 367.72 on my Ubuntu 16.04 LTS install. After a reboot BOINC doesn't recognize the GPU. Reinstalled drivers and BOINC but still have the same problem. Any ideas? |

100% agree. I have very specific reasons that are important to me as to why I choose that option. One is that it helps cut down on the shenanigans that go on during challenges. I'm sure many of you know about the crap that happens during the annual large challenge with projects that require a "wingman." JMHO |

BOINC can select which GPU apps to run or ignore. Couldn't the same option be added for CPUs? |
9) Message boards : Projects : WCG Fight Aids at Home
Message 59420 Posted 8 Jan 2015 by nanoprobe |
No, and that's not something that the core client configuration file, nor the application configuration file is for either. If it isn't already an option in the project's project preferences to choose which app you want, you can ask at the project if they could be so gallant to add that option. It's available in the back-end code. I was hoping there was something like what's available for GPU apps. It's not currently an option at WCG and I doubt they would be interested in adding it. Thanks |

The WCG Fight Aids at Home project has 2 apps, faah and FAVH. Is there a way to add a parameter to the cc_config file so one of the apps can be downloaded and the other ignored? Thanks |

@Ageless I'm sorry we got off on the wrong foot. I've never tried to report a bug. Some of the posts just struck a nerve and I was in high frustration mode. I apologize for being short and I hope we can move on. That being said I still have not been able to figure out the issue. 7.2.42 works fine, 7.4.22 doesn't and I have no idea what else to try. Same issue on 2 identical machines. |
12) Message boards : Questions and problems : Tasks Running High Priority are Disabling GPUs
Message 56617 Posted 10 Oct 2014 by nanoprobe |
I will give that a try and see if the issue goes away. I do like have some built up as lately servers have been going offline for upgrades and maintenance, or for when they run out/load projects. I know what you mean about server issues and running out of work. What I suggested won't fix the problem but it is a work around that I have had success with although not 100% of the time. Good luck. |

Message 56615 Posted 10 Oct 2014 by nanoprobe |
Every time a set of tasks switches itself into high priority it takes up all system resources disabling at least 1 GPU sometimes 2. GPUs should have first priority over all CPU tasks. This needs to be fixed. Sometimes having your cache set too high can cause tasks to run at high priority because BOINC thinks they won't finish before the due date. As a test try lowering your cache to 0 and see if the tasks running high priority go back to normal. If they do then it's a trial and error thing to figure out how high to set your cache so ones that are running don't go into high priority mode. You may have to change cache settings as you change projects. Good luck. |

Lol, that looks like the biggest misconfigure ever. I'd be surprised if you got much GPU load even running two up on each GPU. Really? Maybe you don't know as much as you think you do. |

Don't know. Didn't ask Did it start overnight? Has it worked before, but all of a sudden not? Started when I upgraded to version 7.4.22 Can it have anything to do with Einstein moving servers? Can't see how. 7.2.42.works. How could moving servers override a config file on my computer? What are you seeing in BOINC? Is it that there's work available in BOINC, but isn't it being run? OR don't you have any of the work in cache? I have multiple tasks running and over 200 in cache. What is your hardware? Why can't you post your BOINC start-up messages? 10/9/2014 5:59:35 PM | | Starting BOINC client version 7.2.42 for windows_x86_64 10/9/2014 5:59:35 PM | | log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task 10/9/2014 5:59:35 PM | | Libraries: libcurl/7.25.0 OpenSSL/1.0.1 zlib/1.2.6 10/9/2014 5:59:35 PM | | Data directory: C:\ProgramData\BOINC 10/9/2014 5:59:35 PM | | Running under account Bev 10/9/2014 5:59:35 PM | | CAL: ATI GPU 0: AMD Radeon HD 7850/7870 series (Pitcairn) (CAL version 1.4.1848, 2048MB, 2008MB available, 7040 GFLOPS peak) 10/9/2014 5:59:35 PM | | CAL: ATI GPU 1: AMD Radeon HD 7850/7870 series (Pitcairn) (CAL version 1.4.1848, 2048MB, 2008MB available, 7040 GFLOPS peak) 10/9/2014 5:59:35 PM | | CAL: ATI GPU 2: AMD Radeon HD 7850/7870 series (Pitcairn) (CAL version 1.4.1848, 2048MB, 2008MB available, 7040 GFLOPS peak) 10/9/2014 5:59:35 PM | | CAL: ATI GPU 3: AMD Radeon HD 7850/7870 series (Pitcairn) (CAL version 1.4.1848, 2048MB, 2008MB available, 7040 GFLOPS peak) 10/9/2014 5:59:35 PM | | CAL: ATI GPU 4: AMD Radeon HD 7850/7870 series (Pitcairn) (CAL version 1.4.1848, 2048MB, 2008MB available, 7040 GFLOPS peak) 10/9/2014 5:59:35 PM | | OpenCL: AMD/ATI GPU 0: AMD Radeon HD 7850/7870 series (Pitcairn) (driver version 1348.5 (VM), device version OpenCL 1.2 AMD-APP (1348.5), 2048MB, 2008MB available, 7040 GFLOPS peak) 10/9/2014 5:59:35 PM | | OpenCL: AMD/ATI GPU 1: AMD Radeon HD 7850/7870 series (Pitcairn) (driver version 1348.5 (VM), device version OpenCL 1.2 AMD-APP (1348.5), 2048MB, 2008MB available, 7040 GFLOPS peak) 10/9/2014 5:59:35 PM | | OpenCL: AMD/ATI GPU 2: AMD Radeon HD 7850/7870 series (Pitcairn) (driver version 1348.5 (VM), device version OpenCL 1.2 AMD-APP (1348.5), 2048MB, 2008MB available, 7040 GFLOPS peak) 10/9/2014 5:59:35 PM | | OpenCL: AMD/ATI GPU 3: AMD Radeon HD 7850/7870 series (Pitcairn) (driver version 1348.5 (VM), device version OpenCL 1.2 AMD-APP (1348.5), 2048MB, 2008MB available, 7040 GFLOPS peak) 10/9/2014 5:59:35 PM | | OpenCL: AMD/ATI GPU 4: AMD Radeon HD 7850/7870 series (Pitcairn) (driver version 1348.5 (VM), device version OpenCL 1.2 AMD-APP (1348.5), 2048MB, 2008MB available, 7040 GFLOPS peak) 10/9/2014 5:59:35 PM | | OpenCL CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50GHz (OpenCL driver vendor: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., driver version 1348.5 (sse2,avx), device version OpenCL 1.2 AMD-APP (1348.5)) 10/9/2014 5:59:35 PM | Moo! Yet you ignore how to report a possible bug, giving no details on the app_config.xml, or showing the start-up messages from event log. So no, I don't trust what you're doing. Thanks for your condescending reply. All I can tell you is that the app_config I posted works in version 7.2.42 and does not work in version 7.4.22. If there is something wrong with it please point it out. If not I'm done. |

What exactly are you putting in you app_config.xml? <app_config> <app> <name>einsteinbinary_BRP4G</name> <gpu_versions> <gpu_usage>.5</gpu_usage> <cpu_usage>1</cpu_usage> </gpu_versions> </app> <app> <name>einsteinbinary_BRP5</name> <gpu_versions> <gpu_usage>.5</gpu_usage> <cpu_usage>1</cpu_usage> </gpu_versions> </app> </app_config> Should run 2 tasks per GPU with 1 CPU thread per task. What actually runs is 1 task per GPU with .5 CPU threads per task which I assume is default. Downgraded to BOINC version 7.2.42 to test and app_config worked fine. Version 7.4.22 is the problem IMHO. |

7.4.22 is a test version. It may have bugs or broken things, which it seems is what you're seeing. As far as I know, the app_config.xml works under 7.4.22 as it does under previous versions. The event viewer shows that there is an app_config file but the parameters in the file are ignored. Restarting BOINC or going to advanced>read config files does not change anything. The app_config file settings are ignored. Same issue on 3 different machines. I've been doing this since the first app_config option was added to BOINC so you'll have to trust me that I know exactly what I'm doing. |

Why has the app_config function been removed from this version? I know this version is more for asics but I run GPU projects sometimes and with the app_config option no longer working it makes running GPU projects where tasks per GPU and CPUs per task need to be set almost impossible. Please restore the app_config functionality if possible. Having to downgrade the version so I can run GPU tasks is a royal PITA. |

Ever have a face/palm event? I just had one.
Claggy, you were right on the money. It's been right in front of me all day long. Forgot to add \Boinc to the destination pathway. All is good. Thanks for all the responses. I'm going to go bang my head on the desk for 5 minutes. Still have no idea where the boinc data folder went during the upgrade. Glad I had a backup. |
