I am currently writing a white paper trying to get BOINC installed across a portion of my organization's laptops/workstations. Roughly 500-1000 laptops/workstations. I would like some advice on how this could be managed. I know BOINC requires Admin Rights to install, so it would be installed by the I.T. support department. How do you think BOINC could be managed and controlled across a company? It could be installed and then configured to use GridRepublic or BoincStats(BAM), using one master ID and password for every install so the I.T. Manager could control/manage which projects were allowed. Is there a way to manage BOINC across many computers without the use of a 3rd party website? Any idea's or existing examples of successful organizational management would be greatly appreciated. |

I talked with my director today and in order to proceed i need to find at least 1 BOINC supported project that is at at the minimum partially funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture or one of its sub-agencies or offices. We have to provide proof that the software will directly support the mission of the USDA. So I will have a lot of contacting to do for each of the projects that run under BOINC. This page has a list of many of the USDA Agencies. So if any of you reading this can find any connection please let me know. http://www.usda.gov/wps/portal/usda/usdahome?navtype=MA&navid=AGENCIES_OFFICES_C |

Thank you for the reply. So far in the last year my government workstation has created 165,398.81 points just while running when I was in meetings and during lunch, this in effect was a reduction in government waste of resources. Now imagine if this was spread throughout even a few governmental offices and agencies. It would be a government that is investing in itself and its citizens and all of humanity. It could help in the long term reduce cost of medicare and medicaid if the health research projects are successfull. I ran into some road blocks to get BOINC as an allowed optional software package that is available for government employee's to maximize the unused processing times of our workstations. The directors after a year of pre-cerfitication process testing of running Boinc on my workstation has told me to uninstall it. The testing was a success, but the directors are worried about public perception and legalities and other governmental issues. So unfortunately I will be uninstalling BOINC from my government workstation today. However, I have recently discovered an alternate process that make take year(s) to get through and I will be starting the process in the next few days. So hopefully I can get the process going to help the government in the long run to invest its unused processing power to help reduce the federal budget and invest in the advancement of the country. I am also a member of the National Treasury Employee's Union (NTEU), and I am starting a draft paper that hopefully I can get the national chapter to send out to the approximately 300,000 members a notice about the existence of BOINC and how they can help find cures for cancer, malaria and also help in the scientific projects that aren't health related. Just a side note: I realize there may be for some political reasons, peopel who do not support my efforts. I want to make it clear that it is not my intent to upset or offend these people. I want to let those people know that I am following all governmental policies and procedures. Feel free to PM me any concerns or advice you have, so I can address them in my inititives. I will appreciate any throughts that you have. There are also some non-technical issues that I will have to address in the Federal Agency inititiave that I will be starting. It will be a long process.

I am currently trying to get a pilot going to utilize BOINC on federal workstations. As part of this I need to gather some budgetary advantages. I've been doing some research but I haven't been able to find the info I need. Do you know what if any of the BOINC projects are at least partially funded via grants by the U.S. Federal Government. I am hoping to take advantage of unused government computer resources to help processing on the projects that are funded by the US government. jason(dot)richardson at kcc (dot) usda (dot) gov |

Tech support updated all of the drivers and cleaned up my pc. What finally did the trick was to completely disable Video Acceleration on my display properties. I use dual monitors so I had to do it on both screens. Even though the drivers are all up to date. |

It is a work computer. I had them install the latest BOINC install package from the website. The problem also occurs if I have it not start automaticaly and then manually start it. I know that they have recencly updated my ATI video drivers, however, I am not aware of any other drivers that they have updated. I am hoping that they will install BOINC on a same model workstation that I use, however, with the company using CORE loads I'm not sure if the problem will be reproducible or not on other computer workstations with the same model as mine. I have an HP EliteBook 8740w, however the company I work for has removed Windows 7 and put Windows XP on it using a standard core load image. So who knows what is actually causing the issue. I have the feeling this workstation was tweaked from the manufacturer to run with windows 7. I"m no tech guru, but from part of the dump I'm thinking it may actually be a haredware issue or a some low level driver issue since it mentions RtlIpv4StringToAddressExW+0xfd 9403cbf8 8054b583 00000019 00000020 e4a31ac0 nt!_woutput+0x414 9403cc48 bf802a50 e4a31ac8 00000000 9403cd3c nt!ExFreePoolWithTag+0x4bd 9403cc58 bf8b617a e4a31ac8 9403cd64 0012bcc4 win32k!HeavyFreePool+0xb2 9403cd3c 8054167c 1401039c 00000000 00000000 win32k!IFIOBJR::IFIOBJR+0x82 9403cd64 7c90e514 badb0d00 0012bca4 00000000 nt!RtlIpv4StringToAddressExW+0xfd WARNING: Frame IP not in any known module. I have installed BOINC on windows XP, with admin rights and when it starts I get a BSOD. Below is the Core Dump debug info from the BSOD. I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas on this issue.
