1) Message boards : Questions and problems : Problems Installing Latest Release
Message 60112 Posted 4 Feb 2015 by MensaMan |
When I try to install the latest 64-bit Windows 7 version of the App, with an 8-core AMD processor, 16 GB of memory, and plenty of disk space available + VirtualBox, the VirtualBox installation seems to complete successfully, then the app install starts, but fails when it can't find World Community Grid.msi. I've never had this problem before. I have the previous version with VirtualBox installed and it gave no problems. Any ideas why this is happening? thanks, Phil |
2) Message boards : Questions and problems : wcgrid uses 50% of CPU cycles, even though it is configured for max 10%

The Version I'm running is 7.0.64(x86), wxWigets Version 2.8.10. Both fahv (~50% CPU usage) and faah (~25% CPU usage) are running. The laptop is a 2.4 GHz Core Duo Intel processor, and has never had this problem in the past. I've been running wcgrid on this machine since 2009. I regularly clean the fan intakes with compressed air, when there is a heating issue, but this doesn't respond to that, since I'm running basically 100% CPU usage all the time. In fact, this problem just started in the last few days. Prior to this everything ran at the levels specified in the Configuration and the temperature was in the mid 50's C. Now it is in the high 70's C. Before I noticed this problem, I ran at 30% CPU usage in the Configuration and never observed this issue. I will send the question to the WCG Forums. thanks, Phil |
3) Message boards : Questions and problems : wcgrid uses 50% of CPU cycles, even though it is configured for max 10%

Hello, I am having problems with the wcgrid task. I also run seti@home, but don't have problems with it. I have my local configuration set to use 100% of my CPU's (2) and no more than 10% of CPU cycles, but wcgrid uses anywhere from 25% - slightly more than 50%. This causes my laptop to run very hot. Task Manage shows that wcgrid is using more CPU cycles than System Idle!! I have the latest BIONC download for Intel and am running on a ThinkPad T61p, with 4GB memory, a Core Duo Intel processor, 500GB hard drive, and Windows XP Professional with all the latest updates. Does anyone have an idea what is wrong or what I can do, other than just stop using BOINC on this machine until a future upgrade fixes the problem? I have an 8-core AMD system running the same version of BOINC and when I set the CPU usage to 10%, wcgrid only uses 10%?? Any help would be appreciated! Phil |
4) Message boards : GPUs : Using CUDA causes Infinite Loop BSOD
Message 42811 Posted 1 Mar 2012 by MensaMan |
Ever since updating to the latest BOINC version for Windows, my laptop gets a BSOD with the message that an infinite loop in nv4_disp.dll was the cause. I have the latest version of video driver software for Windows XP, as well as the latest updates to Windows. I noticed that I was getting Computational Errors for the SETI Project that uses the GPU, so turned it off and the problem seems to have gone away. Not sure if this is the correct forum to report this, but there seems to be a problem related to the GPU drivers in the latest version of BOINC software. I never had this problem until I upgraded? Anyone else have this issue? |
