New BOINC installer includes VirtualBox
(Message 51498)
Posted 24 Nov 2013 by Heki Post: Starting with version 7.2.28, the recommended BOINC installer for Windows also installs VirtualBox, open-source virtualization software. This allows volunteered computer to run VM applications, benefitting both scientists and volunteers. I'm sorry David but how it's possible to have benefit from this? Any VM require a certain ammount of CPU time and RAM to work and this will influence the overall CPU usage of BOINC client, becaus he can take only the maximum CPU percentage that we assing to the VM. So it is possible that the host system have more CPU to use for BOINC operation, but it's limited by the VM. |

It's a couple of days that my Boinc clients (I have 2 computers with Boinc installed) are unable to communicate to Boinc projects, so all my computation aren't send, also I cannot download any new work from the scheduler. I have no Internet issue, confirmed by this post and others application that still use Internet connection have no issues. The configuration of my main machine is: CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T @ 3.00 GHz MoBo: Asus Crosshair IV RAM: 8 GHz Videocard: AMD Radeon HD 5850 Thank you in advice! |
