Seems like there are many non-registered FAH donors. http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=userstats See #1

"FAH doesn't run under BOINC"
Never said it did.
"and cannot be compared to BOINC."
Why not? I am aware they are different, but these differences should not give rise to lack of concern for anonymous crunching.
"What they do is their business. If everyone jumps off a cliff, should the BOINC developers do that as well? ;-)"
Was the reason I gave in support of anonymous crunching based off of "FAH does it?" Never did I say "Let's do this, to be like FAH."

"If you want to post in their forum you have to give a username and password anyway so being an anonymous donor doesn't make sense to me."
Not everyone posts in the forum, or finds a need to. It's not like it's required that you must post in the forum to be a donor. (I know I haven't responded to your first point; I'm thinking whether to get info or concede)

"If everything were to happen on an anonymous basis, there would be no registering of the computers happening and anyone can return whatever they want, be it real results or garbage, and theoretically gain credit for that."

Folding@Home seems to be fine, and they allow anonymity.

Allow people to use use Boinc and perform tasks, anonymously. Allowing an anonymous option means many would not have to register. Some people will see they first must register to participate, and be deterred to continue, because they not want to have to fill stuff out.

Making it easier for people to participate in tasks is obviously a good thing. Having a one click way of getting the software would probably make less possible users close the tab.

(Note: I am not saying it is difficult to register; I am not saying I want to know some trick or work around so I can crunch anonymously; I only searched "Anonymous and "Register," in this forum, before posting)
