ICANN has registered that port to Boinc, but MS has used it in a program they made. Boinc used 1043 as a "loopback" address so that the manager could communicate with the daemon across networks. Boinc has switched to port 31416 in the newer developmental clients.

Unfortunately port 31416 is already in use as well: Port numbers

Yes, I saw that myself. The whole point is that MS is taking a port and to fix the problem a different port is being used. It's worked for everyone so far (that was affected by the disconnected issue). As a matter of fact I found out on April 21st as can be see in this thread. In another post in that thread I asked about it.
2) Message boards : BOINC Manager : BOINC 5.4.9 is released

There seems to be a bad WindowsXP boinc.msi file. I downloaded the 5.4.9 installation package and about 80% through the validation of the install package step it fails, reporting that it cannot find a valid boinc.msi. Even when I browse to the directory with the file (which it sees) it will not accept it as valid.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Stan

Yep, reinstall the old version, then install the new over it. reinstalling the old will place those files where they need to be.

Boramor, did you recently change your "cpu run time" preference? This usually occurs when the DCF (duration correction factor) is expecting a shorter run time than it's actually getting. (I.E you were at the default (not selected) and went to a much higher figure. It also might be related to Casp7 trials, but I'm not a rosetta guru. The new "estimated run times" should be higher for your next wus than it was for that one. I'd just let it run, and watch it to see if it's continuing. If it is then post to Rosetta Number Crunching, and I'll see your post there.

which project?

I find the same problem as Stuart. My message says "The project is temporarily unavailable.
Please try again later."
I tried the Les solution - not successful for me.
I do not get a "disconnected" message or find a port conflict.
Does the Project occationally shut down for modification or house cleaning?
Allan

Well, all projects shut down from time to time. This is the Boinc message board and it applies to the "manager" of all projects. What is your particular issue and which project is temporarily unavailable?

Basically, I need you to describe your issue in more depth.

Boinc client software

NOTE: Developmental software is just that, developmental and they do contain bugs of some sort, use at your own risk. See Eula and warnings on screen.

wooa nellie, that's alot of puters. Just so you know, most people answering questions here are just regular users that volunteer time to do so. The actual devs are few and don't necessarily read these boards regularly. This might be best asked directly to them. I'm not willing to give out personal email addresses, but you could sign up for the "Boinc Developers" mail list, and ask this question there. I know it'll get seen by the right people.

I saw your post in Rosetta, and followed it here. I've never set mine to "no". so I have no first hand experience with this, but it seems likely that some process is starting which makes boinc think your machine is now "in use" and stops rah. Have you examined what may be causing boinc to think you're "in use".

Jord, There's no reported rash of these events there. It's pretty much even across all projects, IMO.

David, does this happen all the time, or just sometimes? do these times correspond to any puter event? Task scheduler event, norton scans, etc?
have you tried leaving the task manager up and open to see what's using cpu time when this occurs?

Developmental boinc_5.4.9_windows_intelx86.exe WARNING this one may have bugs. Use at own risk.

that said I an other boinc testers are running it without any "showstoppers" found yet (maybe a proxy issue).

you sure have persistence. The seti server status page is here. It states that as of 3 hours ago it had 64 results "ready to send" and was making new work at 14/second. maybe demand is higher than the supply creation rate.

I'd stick with what you have for a bit longer and see if you get work.

Using the Boinc screensaver, will display which ever project is currently running. I'm not sure how it would work with an HT/Dual core rig.

Bad news:

Project stopped
Hi!

I'm sorry but I decided to stop developping and supporting BOINCnotifier. The reason for this is the constantly changing XML file at boinc.berkeley.edu (it's not even XML conform!). So I would have to change the tool every few days, and unfortunately I haven't got the time for that.
If anyone wants to takeover the project, of course you can have the Delphi sources! Just email me at boincnotifier@petrusserver.de

Greetings
Petrus

I'm guessing you've done a MS update recently. Try a Cold boot (not just restart). Failing that you might download/install a 5.4.x version of boinc. This will use a different port from 5.2.13 which MS has decided to steal from boinc, thus stopping the intercommunication between the daemon and the manager.
