1) Message boards : BOINC Manager : 7.16.19 Mac Invalid Package
Message 105436 Posted 17 Sep 2021 by Nigel Garvey |
Hi Charlie. Happy to report that the "…OS11_6" build has installed with no problem on my El Capitan machine and seems to be running OK. I'll let you know if there are any issues with it, but I imagine it was the installer rather than BOINC or the Manager which had to be sorted out. Many thanks! |

Hi Charlie. No. I'm afraid it doesn't like that one either. Same error. |

Hi Charlie. Sure. I'd be happy to try it for you — if you think a fix is actually worth your time. Does 7.16.19 contain any changes of significance to older systems? The Release Notes haven't been updated yet. The Release Notes do show that 7.16.14, currently running happily on my older machine, has a 'Fix for "digital signature is invalid" installation error on older MacOS versions'. So the problem's come up before. Maybe there's a solution there. |

Hi Jord. No. That version won't install on my Darwin 15.6.0 system either: BOINC.pkg can't be installed because its digital signature is invalid. BOINC 7.16.14 runs with no problem on that machine, except of course that it's now nagging me to get 7.16.19. ;) |

I'm getting the same error trying to install BOINC 7.16.19 on my mid-2009 MacBook Pro: Mac OS X 10.11.6 (Darwin 15.6.0). No problem at with that version on my iMac: macOS 10.14.6 (Darwin 18.7.0). |

EAH updated its SSL system four years again and the 10.5.8-compatible BOINC client can no longer communicate with it. It's possible there's still work for those with the know-how to recompile with a more up-to-date SSL certificate, but essentially PowerPC Macs and Mac OS 10.5.8 are no longer supported. |

Message 95816 Posted 12 Feb 2020 by Nigel Garvey |
It could be you need to configure more shared memory. Some years ago, when CPDN still worked on Macs, I came across a link to this page, which may help: http://www.spy-hill.net/myers/help/apple/SharedMemory.html |

9) Message boards : Questions and problems : Cannot update to 7.10.2
Message 86504 Posted 9 Jun 2018 by Nigel Garvey |
Thanks, Charlie. Sorry I wasn't able to test the effectiveness of the changes myself. My own Intel Macs are both running later systems. |
10) Message boards : Questions and problems : Cannot update to 7.10.2
Message 86401 Posted 31 May 2018 by Nigel Garvey |
I'm more familiar with AppleScriptObjC than with Objective-C itself, but I think the first line's telling you that BOINCManager 7.10.2 tried to use a system API which reads an NSWindow instance's 'backingScaleFactor' property. According to the Xcode documentation, this property was introduced in macOS 10.7, so your 10.6.8 system won't know what it means. |
11) Message boards : Projects : CPDN project going offline this afternoon
Message 85893 Posted 16 Apr 2018 by Nigel Garvey |
… but for the volunteers, if not already for some, we will be soon without tasks to process. That's been the case for macOS and Linux users since the middle of last year and doesn't look set to change. I'd detach from the project if it weren't for its new "data protection" policy of disassociating ex-contributors from their credit. |
12) Message boards : Questions and problems : BOINC Screensaver information for OS 10.13 High Sierra
Message 82983 Posted 15 Nov 2017 by Nigel Garvey |
As it says above, it's the screensavers distributed by the individual projects which need to be updated now. Meanwhile, the BOINC "overview" screensaver can still be used by going to the "Desktop & Screen Saver" tab in System Preferences, selecting the BOINC Screensaver and, in the Screen Saver Options, setting the "Run overview screensaver for" time to the same as the "Blank screensaver after" time and setting the "Run project screensavers for" time to 0. Or you can use one of the other screensavers, of course. BOINC tasks will still run OK. |

Thanks for the clarification. :) |
14) Message boards : Questions and problems : Tasks reported while network activity suspended
Message 67326 Posted 28 Jan 2016 by Nigel Garvey |
While I think of it: After I'd switched on my router yesterday morning, but twenty-five minutes before my BOINC client was due to resume network activity, I reset the CPDN project to clear the debris from the recent batch of download failures. The client immediately reported completed tasks from other projects, requested more, and was granted them — all while network activity was supposedly suspended. The associated uploads and downloads, however, weren't attempted until network activity was resumed. Is this correct behaviour? What would have happened if the router hadn't been on at the time? Message 60200 Posted 9 Feb 2015 by Nigel Garvey |
Hi SekeRob2. Thanks for the suggestion. It hasn't stopped the update messages appearing in the Notices and Event Log after a relaunch of BOINC, but I'll leave the edit in place for a while to see how things go. It's not really that much of an annoyance anyway. :) |

tikimojo wrote:Am I the last person still running BOINC and seti@home on a PPC machine? My early-2005 G5 (Mac OS 10.5.8) has been happily running BOINC 6.12.35 for the past three and a half years and is still returning error-free results for Einstein@home, MilkyWay@home, and SETI@home. The only annoyance is that the Notices system keeps nagging me to download and install the latest version! I've no idea why you should have problems with BOINC 6.12.35 on your G5. But if downgrading makes them go away and the machine's still returning valid results and has no other problems, there's probably no point in trying to force the issue. |

Message 50297 Posted 23 Aug 2013 by Nigel Garvey |
There is also a check box in System Preferences -> General to tell OS X not to reopen all windows when relaunching apps. And there's a check box in System Preferences -> Users & Groups ("Accounts" on older systems) -> Login Items which determines whether or not BOINCManager is hidden when it opens on log-in. It's worth making sure this is still ticked. NG |

Who are you then that you are so important that the developers have to listen to you? Why all the tantrums, why all the (veiled) demands? What have you done (lately) for the BOINC developers? Paid them money? Helped them test the software? Helped them program any part of it? And in any case, re-read the posting rules. New arrivals shouldn't have to remind moderators about them. • No messages intended to annoy or antagonize other people, or to hijack a thread. • No messages that are deliberately hostile or insulting. |
