Server support from the community
(Message 98398)
Posted 9 May 2020 by [AF>Libristes] Dudumomo Post: Hello, We are running time to time some challenges / race on some projects, to keep the momentum high and leverage it to recruit some new members as well. But by doing this, it puts sometimes the server of the project under pressure and some might have issues (usually on the network side, upload/download,...) I was thinking we could support them by running some temporary upload or download server to support the project. But I am not sure if this is a good idea and how complicated at the end it will be for the project admin. Objective is not to create complexity, but simply to extend our support there. Any thoughts about this? Thank you |

BOINC Mirror needed?
(Message 88051)
Posted 13 Sep 2018 by [AF>Libristes] Dudumomo Post: Hello, Yesterday I was downloading BOINC on some PCs (In Vietnam) and I found the download speed to be pretty slow. It's not the first time and I am wondering if the infra could benefit in having mirrors. I am the admin of the VN mirror http://mirror.freedif.org and I still have some bandwidth and disk space available for BOINC if needed. Is it something doable and needed? Thanks |

Posted 26 Apr 2011 by [AF>Libristes] Dudumomo Post: Actually LHC@home is not know as Test4theory (Still in dev) Because it is very complicated to maintain differents applications for us (Especially because they use big library and have a lot of dependencies) they are trying (And it's working so far) to use the technology of virtual machines. Ie, BOINC download a virtual machine, the machine starts and crunch for xx hours. Like this, they are able to offer a unique virtualmachine to every platform. I recommand you to check the link. Happy crunching |

It can indeed takes time to reach your maximum speed. It also depends where you live, as my server is located in France. And insure you that you don't have any firewall blocking your p2p port. I've made a test with a friend, using a similar server than I, still in France. His download speed reached 15mb/s and takes less than a minute. I might try with bigger file to see how fast it can be but I guess it is not very useful here. (My max under torrent was 25mb/s but 45mb/s using HTTP, after the hardware might not be powerfull enough) Anyway, if torrent doesn't suit you and if you prefer download the file in a passive way, I've set up a share space: www.freelydifferent.com/videos Enjoy |

Posted 24 Apr 2011 by [AF>Libristes] Dudumomo Post: Downloading the videos should not take 8 hours as there is a gigabit server behind that. It should be pretty quick actually, based on your maximum download speed. Youtube is starting to use more and more ads and downloading the videos from youtube not so great.... But torrent, being really Open, free and very reliable seems to be a good choice (I took this choice) |
