"DB2 maintenance has finished, and both the website and forums are accessible again. Finally, we now run from
the new SSD storage system. The science DB transfer has been delayed in the process, now estimated to finish
by 6pm. Thank you for your support."

For what it is worth the Page loading times are quick at the moment

TN-Grid appears to be down. The website is down, and attempts to upload finished results files fail with transient HTTP errors.

And back up online with all Server processes showing Green

9) Message boards : Questions and problems : BOIC Unexpected Exit (Message 110778)
Posted 20 Dec 2022 by Profile Bill Freauff
Post:
I have a Win 10 system that had some pop up communication related errors and I thought that it appeared to more on the BOINC side than the Project App / Work Unit side. I reloaded BOINC and then my BOINC would not connect with the Client or would not stay connected. I then uninstalled BOINC and reinstalled ... no change. I can't see the error log as it won't connect to the Client.

The exit error states "The BOINC Client has exited unexpectedly 3 times in the last 5 minutes. Would you like to restart it again ? "

Is there a way to look at the the error log contents via the BOINC program folder ? Or does anyone have a suggestion for me ?

Thanks

Grumble: "We are experiencing a higher than expected number of calls at the moment..."

Given that message never changes whatever time of day or whatever day of the week it is, why the $&*^^$£ have they not changed their expectations?

Don't get your hopes up that they will ever change their message.

Just about anywhere you call in the states that uses an automatic answer svc (technically called an 'IVR') ... have this disclaimer.

They would prefer you press a specific key to leave them a message so they can return your call at their convenience.

If I call somewhere, I don't want to talk to a machine. I want a living, breathing, blue blooded person that speaks, reads & writes English as their primary language, not some variation of pidgin engrish.

... Blue blooded ???

A Florida woman has sued the makers of Velveeta Shells and Cheese, claiming the dish takes too long to make.

The Kraft Company markets its microwaveable cups as "ready in 3.5 minutes" but Amanda Ramirez says it takes longer.

The $5m (£4.2m) lawsuit claims the time advertised does not include preparation time - opening the lid and sauce pouch, before adding water and stirring.

Kraft Heinz Foods Company described the lawsuit as "frivolous".
Funny Americans. 😂

And in this case the company is correct... frivolous. Personal opinion home made is better and if you are in that big of a hurry your life values are off.

What Asteroids did for the old tasks that finally uploaded was show them as complete pending verification and then they generated a Wingman task and distributed it as new work. When the Wingman task completed both users got credit for their task.

The BOINC Statistics display for host average.
By which.I assume the graphical display in BOINC Manager.

Many years ago, as an undergraduate at one of the major physics labs in the UK, I was taught two lessons which have stayed with me for over fifty years (the actual physics, sadly, has not).

Lesson 1: Do every calculation twice. Once, using the best technology and the highest precision available (at the time, that was a sliderule). And again, with a pencil on the back of an envelope, to 'order of magnitude' - nearest power of 10 - precision only. That checks that you put the decimal point at the right place in the first answer.

Lesson 2: A number is meaningless unless you state the units it's measured in.

In this case, your numbers are 7000, 2000, 4500. Those are measured in "BOINC credits". They should be equivalent to "cobblestones", which is a defined number in terms of the number of calculations performed in reaching the scientific answer. Many of us wish that this was still the case, so that we can do the sort of comparisons that you are attempting.

But unfortunately, and disappointingly, the direct link between 'work done' and 'credits awarded' was broken over 10 years ago. Each project is free to choose its own credit reward rate, and as you have found, they don't all keep that consistent, even between the different task types within their own project.

As things stand at the moment, you have two options. Either take a deep breath, relax, and stop worrying about it. Or take it up with the research/administration team at Milkyway@Home: they are in control of their own credit rewards, and have the power to change it. But it may be low on their list of priorities.

Very well said....

Hello William,

The BOINC@TACC project has been discontinued. The lead of the project has moved to a different institution and we are no longer hosting the research. Thanks.
