Excellent news ! Our votes count !! :)

Is it only an honorary prize or there are coins of the realm that can benefit to boinc resources ?

I have not seen this news coming from LHC forum here.

BOINC is a finalist for an notable award, and needs your vote (*by Sunday):

Context: The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) is a United Nations-sponsored initiative aimed at harnessing the potential of information and communication technologies to build inclusive and equitable information societies worldwide. BOINC has been nominated for a prize at the 2024 forum, and has passed initial hurdles; the next and last step ("Phase 3") requires public votes. The award would be a very nice boost and validation for BOINC and all our projects; if we can get our communities to vote, we should have a decent shot at this point...

Voting is pretty simple, takes just a few minutes; instructions are here.

(*The deadline for votes is Sunday: 31 March 2024, 23:00 UTC+02:00)

Hi

I've been crunching 24H on macs since 2007 and I can't remember having "conflict" issues with macOS general operation.

My current machine is (latest) Intel 27i late 2020 iMac.

Due to always decreasing macOS apps supports by boinc projects, I've been doing 50% of my crunch into a linux VM for years.

Not sure if I could do the same with a Mx mac.

J.

add

128.113.126.54 milkyway-new.cs.rpi.edu

in the host file or the computer (https://www.siteground.com/kb/hosts-file/)

Once this is done (or browsing directly on 128.113.126.54) you will find a discussion about this in the news section of the forum.

Some people claim that boinc could send back work to the project with this change done.
10) Message boards : Questions and problems : What is "BOINC Central" project ? (Message 112991)

Oh ok I get it : a meta-project "to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them" :)

I actually realize the existence of https://boinc.berkeley.edu/central/ !

With plenty of recents apps for all OS !

But nothing to crunch for indeed...

So nothing to do with "sporadic apps".

Thanks !

So there is a direct link to boinc sporadic apps ?

(+ here also)

But is is strange though : does it mean we would not attach to a dedicated project but to this "boinc central" stuff ? and therefore not be able to choose what we want to do ??

There is now a "BOINC Central" project in the project list that can be added from the Boinc manager, what can it be ?

Thanks for these answers.

For PG I reviewed the page and all Genefer app (from 15 to 22) + DYFL do have the "Mac OS running on an ARM 64-bit CPU" version, all the other are "on an Intel 64-bit CPU". But that's great :)

For Einstein I find Gamma-ray pulsar search #5 (FGRP5) with "Mac OS X running on ARM" version (which is CPU app). Gamma-ray pulsar binary search #1 on GPUs (FGRPB1G) mentions a "1.29 (Apple_M-opencl)" version but super strangely related platform is "Mac OS 10.5 or later running on Intel 64 Bit", which doesn't make much sense.

So "very few boinc projects/apps" is the first answer anyway.

What about rosetta compatibility with traditional boinc projects (for Intel/AMD world) ? any feedback, all is running well and "fast enough" ?

Edit : + I was just informed that all 3 Denis applications do have a "Mac OS running on ARM" version !

Hi

there was a topic for this but it seems we can't write anymore in it ("older" topics are blocked ?)

What is the situation about Boinc and Mac Mx series now in September 2023 ?

Fully compatible ? any project made any native Mx version of their apps ?

Any feedback on running boinc projets with rosetta ? all projects run fine ?

Thanks

To complete the information, with macOS version 7.22.1 published 9th May, even some remaining display glitches (with strange "variable bold rows") were solved.

Data usage tab is still blank (empty circles). Not a big deal.

For information the issue is now solved at 95% with latest "Apple Mac (64-bit Intel and Apple Silicon)" 7.20.7 version published yesterday on the official website, thanks !!

5% is for the data usage tab that is still mute and not showing any data, but that one I never use :)

Thanks guys, there is obviously no urgency on this issue : boinc client is running fine and I do have BoincTasks Js to control the job on my mac - but I tend to prefer BM depending on what I am checking, and BTJs has a strange tendency to disconnect / reconnect to the client regularly... (but the easy multi-machine control + task history is a must from BT).

I added a comment in the GitHub issue : the data usage tab and statistical tab have no data to display neither.

Hiya

I have suddenly decided to upgrade my Intel iMac (one of the latest late 2020) from macOS 12 to latest 13.3.1.

All is working perfect, except that Boinc Manager is only listing the tasks and their status, but not anymore the run time / % / remaining / deadline...

BoincTasks Js is doing the job, though.

I reinstalled boinc (7.20.4) but same behavior.

Any idea ?

Thx

Things have gone downhill ever since SETI folded up.
I want over to BoincStats and made the following notes

150 Retired projects
43 active projects (unaccountably includding collatz!)
24 projects that have at least 1 work unit of data.

Out of those 24 projects with data only 9 have enough to be candidates for the next crunching contest.
Out of those 9 there are 2 that currently have data and statistics collection problems and another 3 that have their servers hosted in Russia.

Does anyone have or know of a chart of BOINC project growth / loss?
I am guessing a bell curve would show SETI at the top.
If BOINC was a company there would be shareholders looking for new management.

My 0.02c

Sorry if I offended anyone.
Feel free to delete this post or move it somwhere where management wont see it.

It's been many years that boinc's interest is fading out. Read this if you're not convinced.

But as long as we are here, boinc is here :)

And regarding the "3 projects hosted in Russia"... frankly... no comment.
