1) Message boards : Questions and problems : BOINC keeps reseting to 'zero'
Message 54621 Posted 27 Jun 2014 by Philip Buglass |
I have just moved to a new PC, running Win 8.1. I have installed the BOINC manager, and set it to point to my data folder, which is on a separate hard drive I brought across with me. Every time I reboot the PC, BOINC manager comes up in a 'new' state, asking me to connect to a project... I have 5 projects, each with over a million units completed. If I cannot find a way to prevent this behavior, I will have to give up on BOINC after more than 10 years of usage... Has anyone seen this behavior before, and better still, does anyone know how to stop it? Thanks, |

And you're absolutely sure that the messages stated it downloaded any work, not just master files and such? Yes, it has started and finished several downloads and uploads from different projects - except seti which only seems to accept connections for about a day every week. |

Do (temporarily) change that, click the "Show all tasks" button. This button will change in "Show active tasks". It shows the option you have, not the state it is in. It's there to safe-guard against the problem BOINC Manager (BM) has, when too many tasks are in the cache that BM will lose its connection to the underlying client. This is because the amount of time to generate a real-time representation of what's showing in the Tasks tab cannot be relayed into the 1 second refresh time of the remote procedure call used to do this. e.g. 1,500 tasks take 1.5 second to refresh, while the RPC is only 1 second. I normally have it set to "show all tasks", and never have more than about 50 or so at any one time. In any case, there is no change to what is shown, regardless of the setting. All the fields are blank, except for progress. This shows an empty box, with shading to show partial completion. |

Both versions are 64-bit. I changed from 6.10.18 to 6.10.58. The data directory is in the same place as before, and I can't see another one anywhere. Since I posted the earlier message, the program has been running, somewhat. It now lists my projects on the projects page, but despite messsages stating that it downloaded a bunch of workunits, the tasks page still only displays the progress bar. I found a file, stderrgfx.txt, which contains the following: 11:10:23 (5780): Starting graphics application. 11:10:23 (5780): fullscreen mode requested. Successfully loaded './Helvetica.txf'... Successfully loaded 'boinc_logo_black.jpg'. Hi, I just upgraded to the new version, on a windows Vista machine with an Nvidia graphics card. I cannot get the program to run properly. Nearly every time I start it off, it prompts me to connect to projects. The only screen which shows anything to do with my projects is the statistics display. I go through and connect to my projects (seti, docking & einstein), but they don't appear on the projects page. The tasks page only displays the progress bars, with some complete and some in progress. There is no indication of what they are, though. After connecting again to the 3 projects, the program does *something* but I can't see what. It flashes up a message on the left side of the task bar, but it is not there long enough to read. It does this many times, then the program just dies without giving any kind of error message. I have all the preferences set the way they were before, and I cannot see what else I can change to get it to work. Any hints or tips would be gratefully received! Thanks. |
