1) Message boards : BOINC client : My Wish List (Message 58591)

It is intentional, that's correct. You can actually find code for it in the source code of the client, it's just not finished and the developers won't finish it, because it opens the door for hackers to send malicious code onto people's computers, if they hack a BOINC server that can send updates.

Thanks for your reply. I just thought to have a non default option or button in Boinc to check for updates and then a delta update of only changed files would be available. So maybe not auto update but in-app delta update from only one secure Boinc server (this one here maybe). I am just thinking of e.g. Firefox which also handles delta updates and is installed on millions of systems. Anayway, thanks for checking and maybe one day the devs will rethink their decision.

So far there´s still no auto update mechniasm within Boinc, are there any special reasons why this feature has not been impemented? I think it´s pretty common for a lot of applications these days.

Hm, no idea what this could cause the issue? Maybe I´m the only one checking the RSS news feed :-)

Hello,

I observed a minor issue with the rss news feed provided by the projects, it seems not only the actual news item is pushed to external sites (e.g. boincstats), but the replies to that news item as well.

See e.g. http://boincstats.com/en/page/projectNews

This behaviour is now live for some weeks so I assume something changed in the Boinc server code some time ago as it affects a number of projects.

Hi there,

it would be great if the Windows client could detect the AVX feature on newer processors to avoid working with an app_ino.xml on some projects.

Many thanks

Thanks Ageless, then I believe the issue might be with BAM because what I understand is that preferences set there should override the global_prefs.

So the situation is that when I start Boinc I get the mentioned message, and looking into the global_prefs file I can see the EVO URL. When I synchronize with BAM manually the preferences from there are loaded and I can see http://bam.boincstats.com as the URL.

I still think this is weird, as the EVO project is retired as far as I know, and how come a retired project which I´m obviously not connected to anymore can just change my preferences?

I did a clean Boinc install some days ago so I guess this comes not from an entry in some xml file.

Hey,

I´m getting a strange message on my message tab:

General prefs: from http://boinc.run.montefiore.ulg.ac.be/evo/ (last modified 20-Mar-2011 14:26:27)

I don´t have a project with such a URL in my project list so I wonder where the client gets this information? Does anybody know what this project is and why this shows up and actually alters my preferences?

Boinc 7.0.25 with Boinctasks and connected to BAM

Thanks Peter, not sure why the devs have changed that but I will live with it.

I have just installed the newest version 6.12.26 for Win 32 and everything runs fine but I cannot change the order of the columns in the task tab. This is a minor thing but I got used to the view and would like to change it. Is that possible?
12) Message boards : Promotion : 2 Million BOINC users (Message 34377)

Hey,

according to boincstats.com BOINC passed the 2 million mark for total users on august 9 or 10. Although there are "only" appr. 300k users active at the moment I think this is a remarkable result and should be published in some way. Why not make a little notice on the Boinc homepage?

Thanks and happy crunching to everybody
