1) Message boards : Questions and problems : New to BOINC
Message 52577 Posted 15 Feb 2014 by Gundolf Jahn |
I already removed them from BAM but they are still on my projects BOINC manager I can suspend projects but the remove tab is not available. You'll have to wait until your hosts have contacted BAM! before the projects are removed from them too. Gruß Gundolf |
2) Message boards : Web interfaces : Where would I find files for parsing stats?
Message 52464 Posted 9 Feb 2014 by Gundolf Jahn |
How do other stat sites gather information on users, then? If the user IDs vary between projects, how does boincstats know that user x has starts from projects a, b, and c? That's where the CPID (Cross Project IDentificator) comes into play. For this to function correctly, users have to connect all their projects to one computer (simply said). There are some explanations in the BOINCstats FAQs. Although even boincstats seems to be imperfect as well. I've got four duplicates of myself showing different projects im in. That's not BOINCstats's fault but the problem lies within the CPID system itself. Gruß Gundolf |
3) Message boards : GPUs : No usable GPU found \ radeon 4350 \ linux
Message 52323 Posted 4 Feb 2014 by Gundolf Jahn |
Is the console session able to "see" the video drivers? (Check path and access rights (user:group)!) Gruß Gundolf |
4) Message boards : Questions and problems : Use HDD for BOINC work files instead of SSD
Message 52047 Posted 20 Jan 2014 by Gundolf Jahn |
Sorry Gundolf - Linux doesn't have the same installer screens as the Windows version. Yeah, my fault; didn't read the OP until the end Gruß Gundolf |
5) Message boards : Questions and problems : Use HDD for BOINC work files instead of SSD
Message 52045 Posted 20 Jan 2014 by Gundolf Jahn |
You can leave the BOINC program directory on the SSD and place the BOINC data directory on your HDD. However, that's no configuration item but you'll have to uninstall BOINC, move (copy) the data directory to the desired path and reinstall BOINC pointing the installer at the new location via the admin option (third screen?). Gruß Gundolf |
6) Message boards : GPUs : Onboard ATI GPU visible, not working
Message 51973 Posted 11 Jan 2014 by Gundolf Jahn |
If your GPU is detected by BOINC but not used, you need to tell BOINC to use all GPUs. That's done by creating a cc_config.xml file in your BOINC data directory and inserting the <use_all_gpus> option. How to do that is described in the BOINC wiki: Client configuration. Gruß Gundolf |
7) Message boards : Projects : Strange total credits in BOINC Stats

Split CPID? Gruß Gundolf |
8) Message boards : Questions and problems : Macs just for calculating
Message 51730 Posted 14 Dec 2013 by Gundolf Jahn |
I think that's a windows thing. Gruß Gundolf |
9) Message boards : BOINC client : Does BOINC check the remote manager at startup?
Message 51711 Posted 12 Dec 2013 by Gundolf Jahn |
Maybe this feature is only in BM and I am not running BM. I can't say anything about your problem with BAM!, but I'm pretty sure that (a missing) BM is not the problem. It's just a GUI; all checking/scheduling etc. is done by the client not the manager. Gruß Gundolf |
10) Message boards : BOINC Manager : Windows 64-bit BOINC version 7.2.33 setup Crashed!
Message 51697 Posted 11 Dec 2013 by Gundolf Jahn |
See also the following FAQ entry: Windows Installer Error 1706: Setup cannot find the required files / 1714: older version cannot be removed / BOINC.msi cannot be found / The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable / Error 1325. is not a valid short name Gruß Gundolf |
11) Message boards : Questions and problems : Need disk space
Message 51696 Posted 11 Dec 2013 by Gundolf Jahn |
You'll have to restart the BOINC client (reboot) before copying the event log (first 20-30 lines). Gruß Gundolf |
12) Message boards : Questions and problems : Linux screen saver
Message 51588 Posted 28 Nov 2013 by Gundolf Jahn |
I would still greatly appreciate any help I can get to successfully install the BOINC Screen Saver. Are you speaking about the BOINC screensaver only? Because I suspect that you want to see the SETI@home screensaver (which is called by the BOINC one). However, I'm not sure that the S@H applications for linux include a graphics application at all. So, that would leave you with the BOINC screensaver only, which only shows statistics on the progress of the running tasks(s). Gruß Gundolf |
13) Message boards : Questions and problems : Problems installing BOINC 7.2.28
Message 51575 Posted 27 Nov 2013 by Gundolf Jahn |
Anything else I should be looking for??? What's your preference setting for Suspend work when non-BOINC CPU usage is above 25 % 0 means no restriction Enforced by version 6.10.30+ Did you try 100% (or 0, which has the same effect)? Gruß Gundolf |
14) Message boards : Questions and problems : no email notification
Message 51501 Posted 24 Nov 2013 by Gundolf Jahn |
You'll have to subscribe to a thread (button at the top of the thread) if you want to get email notification of changes to the thread (any thread, not just your own). Gruß Gundolf |
15) Message boards : BOINC Manager : Communication Deffered
Message 51474 Posted 23 Nov 2013 by Gundolf Jahn |
What am I supposed to do? At least you should tell as why the communication is deferred. We need an error or status message (BOINC manager advanced view), since you are giving only the result, not the reason. Furthermore, to help us helping you, read this link and give the requested information. Gruß Gundolf |
16) Message boards : Questions and problems : Macs just for calculating
Message 51352 Posted 18 Nov 2013 by Gundolf Jahn |
- WUs Work Units := tasks downloaded from BOINC projects - CPDN Climate Prediction Dot Net := a BOINC project Gruß Gundolf |
17) Message boards : Questions and problems : "Remove" Project button disabled in BOINC Manager
Message 51285 Posted 12 Nov 2013 by Gundolf Jahn |
Seemingly, you are using an account manager like BAM! or GridRepublic. You can either remove the project using the account manager or stop using it and then remove it via the reenabled Remove button. Gruß Gundolf [edit]It's still happening! Two answers at (almost) the same time.[/edit] |
18) Message boards : Questions and problems : one more feature to make perfect
Message 51072 Posted 29 Oct 2013 by Gundolf Jahn |
Is that right? No, it's not (if you are speaking of tasks/workunits;-)! Only AstroPulse tasks are split intermittently (a few days a week) and if you still are waiting for version 6 multibeam tasks, you'll have to switch over to version 7 (SETI, not BOINC). Gruß Gundolf |
19) Message boards : Questions and problems : Controlling BOINC when running under unprivileged account
Message 50919 Posted 20 Oct 2013 by Gundolf Jahn |
Either install BOINC in non-service mode or set the BOINC service startup mode to manual. Gruß Gundolf |
20) Message boards : Questions and problems : General question for new user
Message 50651 Posted 26 Sep 2013 by Gundolf Jahn |
Do I just leave the program open? Can I quit Boinc?! You may quit the BOINC manager, but make sure (via exit options) that the BOINC client and thus the science applications stay running. Gruß, Gundolf |
