| 1) Message boards : News : BOINC client 8.2.8 released
Message 118192 Posted 24 Jan 2026 by mobluse |
Before I upgraded, but now I used apt purge, and had to reconfigure my boinc installation from scratch, and then boinc-client 8.3.0-3764 worked! Maybe something in the configuration files or the data changed so that you need to purge and reinstall to get it to work. |

I update it and it gets updated, but now the boinc-client doesn't seem to run. It worked before and I could update it and the updated version worked, but for at least the last two nightly updates it doesn't work. I now have 8.3.0-3764. Version 8.3.0-3744 worked, and some later too, I believe. I updated using:sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade I tested if it runs using: $ boinccmd --get_state can't connect to local host Also boinctui cannot connect. OS: Raspbian GNU/Linux 11 (bullseye) armv7l Host: Raspberry Pi 2 Model B Rev 1.1 |

I have BOINC client 8.2.8 now on a Raspberry Pi 4 B with 8GB RAM and Debian 12 (bookworm), but I also tried to install it on a Raspberry Pi 2 B with 1GB RAM using the instructions on https://boinc.berkeley.edu/linux_install.php?action=submit&os_num=0&version_num=2&build=alpha for Debian 11 (bullseye) armv7l, but that doesn't work since there is no armhf version. On both systems I could install Podman.Hit:3 https://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/linux/alpha/bullseye bullseye InRelease ... N: Skipping acquire of configured file 'main/binary-armhf/Packages' as repository 'https://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/linux/alpha/bullseye bullseye InRelease' doesn't support architecture 'armhf' Will there be an armhf (e.g. armv7l) version of the latest boinc-client for Debian 11 or later? |

I installed on Debian Bookworm according to https://boinc.berkeley.edu/linux_install.php?os_num=3&build=alpha but since I have an arm64 i.e. Raspberry Pi 4 B 4 GB it doesn't install the latest, but instead install the one built-in in the distribution: http://deb.debian.org/debian bookworm/main arm64 boinc-client arm64 7.20.5+dfsg-1.1 [458 kB] During `sudo apt install boinc-client boinc-manager` I get: N: Skipping acquire of configured file 'main/binary-arm64/Packages' as repository 'https://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/linux/alpha/bookworm bookworm InRelease' doesn't support architecture 'arm64' If you would make an arm64 alpha version I would get it on next upgrade. |
| 6) Message boards : Android : Can no longer contact an Android device remotely, i.e. via BOINC Manager or BOINCTUI
Message 115408 Posted 10 Feb 2025 by mobluse |
I have a phone that I have been able to contact via BOINC Manager and BOINCTUI for years, but since a few days it is impossible. I check all computers and devices via BOINCTUI every day. There has been no upgrades of BOINC Manager or BOINCTUI on the computers or BOINC for Android on the phone. The phone uses boinc_7.18.1.apk 2021-08-08 11:18 12M since that is the latest version that works on that phone. I have tried newer, but they were not possible to install. It is possible to ping the phone from the same computer that runs BOINC Manager and BOINCTUI. I have of course tried to restart the phone and BOINC restarts automatically, but it still cannot communicate with BOINC Manager and BOINCTUI. The phone still runs e.g. Einstein@home and WUProp@home and reports finished tasks. Last month it did, according to WUProp@home: Einstein@Home Binary Radio Pulsar Search (Arecibo,GBT) 348.72 h (100.00%) Last week: Einstein@Home Binary Radio Pulsar Search (Arecibo,GBT) 31.98 h (100.00%) About the phone: samsung GT-S6790N - SDK: 16 ABI: armeabi-v7a ARM ARMv7 Processor rev 9 (v7l) [Impl 0x41 Arch 7 Variant 0x2 Part 0xc09 Rev 9] (1 processors) Android 3.0.15-1379436 (Android 4.1.2) It is the same problem to connect on other computers with BOINCTUI or BOINC Manager with Linux or Windows. Both the phone and the computers running BOINCTUI or BOINC Manager are on the same network and ping works. I have many other Android devices that can be contacted without problems. I have password on all Android devices. |

Another video with Dr Baker: David Baker explains his Nobel Prize research on protein design I have done and do now computations for Rosetta@home on a Raspberry Pi 4 B (4 GB RAM). Sometimes the RAM requirements for Rosetta exceed 4GB RAM and then those tasks won't be downloaded. |
| 8) Message boards : Android : Loses Wi-Fi connection after a few hours
Message 111536 Posted 10 Apr 2023 by mobluse |
I have a BOINC dedicated Alcatel U3 / TCL 4034D with Android 6.0 that runs BOINC 7.18.1, but it loses network connection if it is not actively used. I've configured WiFi to always be on using Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep = Always. My current solution is to shut it off daily and restart it 5 minutes later automatically using Scheduled power on & off. It then usually keeps network for a few hours. It would be better if I could reboot automatically, e.g. each 6 hours. I there a way to do this? The current system with daily reboots works rather well since it can exchange data for a few hours every day. I have another older Samsung GT-S6790N with Android 4.1.2 next to it, but that never loses connection. |
| 9) Message boards : Android : I run BOINC on Chromecast with Google TV HD installed using F-Droid
Message 111033 Posted 9 Feb 2023 by mobluse |
Chromecast with Google TV (HD) is a dongle that doesn't cost much, and besides I only use 2 of 4 CPUs, and it is configured to shut off if the CPU temperature is above 38°C (100°F) or usage from other processes is more than 20%. Chromecast with Google TV (HD) comes with its own power supply, and I use that. |

I run BOINC on Chromecast with Google TV HD installed using F-Droid. F-Droid was installed (side loaded) using the app Downloader and Google TV is in developer mode. BOINC client is version 7.18.1 for arm-android-linux-gnu. I added World Community Grid using the Chromecast remote and it runs two instances of Mapping Cancer Markers 7.61. It was slightly difficult to maneuver the GUI on the TV since some buttons and list items doesn't change color when selected. I use the dark theme, but the problem was the same with the light theme. I checked "run as a stationary computer" and restarted Google TV. I added WUProp@Home remotely using BOINC Manager running on another computer. I also run BOINC on two old Android phones with Android 4 and 6. Google TV has Android TV 12. I monitor all my BOINC systems using BOINCTUI. Benchmark results: Number of CPUs: 2 1671 floating point MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU 3715 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU |
| 11) Message boards : Android : BOINC hangs during start up with white screen with logo (splash screen)
Message 98520 Posted 15 May 2020 by mobluse |
BOINC hangs during start up with white screen with logo (splash screen), if I have moved the app to SD card. It works if I don't move it. I would prefer if I could move it to SD since I lack free space on the internal flash memory. Phone: TCL 4034D OS: Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) I installed the app from Google Play today i.e. it is 7.4.53. |
