OH and myself have a joint email with phone coop, our ISP who have recently decided that they can't afford to support email anymore so customers will have to migrate to someone else looking after this side of things. (mail.coop is the address of the people providing the service.) Sadly, I suspect that this is the first migration of the type that they have done and they are floundering. Joint email still works but individual one of other half, now only working with webmail. Emails sent from Thunderbird bounce except when going to a phonecoop.coop email address.

Glad my own individual email address is not with phone coop!

this link shows you which projects support which platforms. The three you list say they support Android but not sure how up to date that is. Ralph and Rosetta have not given me any work on Linux for a couple of days now and their server status page is showing no unsent tasks so no big surprise nothing is coming from there.

Update: 8.1.0 now running from usr directory in VM. Not best security practice according to some, I know but as the VM is only used for BOINC not an issue.

Switching to packaged version for client (7.20.1) from memory, all works fine so issue is with client rather than manager which is still 8.0.1. I will do a new build with VM as that was with a minimal install which resulted in having to look for a lot more libraries before I could get the build to work. I will try again with a full clean install.

I compiled the latest master (8.1.0) and since upgrading get

"BOINC manager (pre-release)is not able to start a client. Please run the client and start again."

Starting the client with
sudo systemctl start boinc-client
either before or after starting the manager makes no difference. Tomorrow I will search git-hub for clues. Ubuntu 23.10 and 24.04 in a fresh install both exhibit this behaviour.

Which projects? Can you login to the websites or is it just using the BOINC app that gives the errors?

I don't think there is. Sometimes these happen, even on PC/Mac.


I had assumed that when the messages were persistent on my PC it had something to do with the server. But that might be a complete red herring.

No need to uninstall the old version. The only time you need to do that is when something goes pear shaped.

Grumble: First flagged as an issue at least ten years ago. Resuming Ubuntu24.04 in VB after saving machine state. Time is wrong on resuming which sudo apt-update doesn't like. Installing ntp fixed this but I would have hoped there could have been an "out of the box" solution to this by now.

Can you install CUDA drivers for an AMD GPU? I didn't think that was possible

My bad. I didn't even see that your GPU was AMD! Is there anything about this problem on the project websites? Doing a search there are certainly people working on CUDA with AMD but I didn't look into any of the links deeply enough to see how far they had got.

An upgrade seems the most likely cause. If so, I am guessing there will be more reports of this soon. Is this with Win11? The only version I have run since ME is Tiny10 a cut down version of Win10 in a VM that doesn't update unless I ask it to and I don't do that seeing as it is pretty safe in a VM.

Edit: Just noticed Win11 is in the thread title.

Surprised that in 7 days, no GPU tasks downloaded in Linux.
I suspect, not the right driver.

Just looked at your results on asteroids@home which confirms that your tasks are completing and being validated fine. Have you checked the asteroids message boards in case it is something to do with their server at the moment? If not, I am running out of ideas.
